An indirect suggestion my dad made for me to try and make something practical out of brass. He didn't expect I'd end up making these!
WARNING: Brass Knuckles are illegal in most countries, and metal foundries can reach temperatures in excess of 1,000ºC, which is well above the melting point of hobbyists. This project should only be attempted with adequate knowledge and training, proper protective safety gear, and in a fire resistant area with adequate ventilation. The heat from the foundry can easily burn, and inhaling excessive amounts of zinc fumes can cause metal fume fever. Use caution and common sense. Use of this video content is at your own risk.

The weather has cooled off quite a bit, which has turned my interest back to keeping warm by casting metal.
This time round I wanted to play with higher temperature metals, like brass. So I made a trip to a local shooting range, and salvaged a whole bucket-load of spent brass casings.
Quite a few people have asked whether my backyard foundry can melt brass, and I was curious myself, so I threw a few handfuls of casings into a crucible and fired them up.
I tried using lump charcoal because it burns hotter and faster than briquettes, and a clay crucible purchased from the internet because it withstands heat better, and lasts longer than steel.
I was impressed that the brass melted down without hesitation, and I was able to easily cast mini brass muffins the same day.
A couple things worth mentioning are that the melting point of brass is around the boiling point of zinc. I noticed this in real-life when the metal started bubbling, and shooting out white flames. I wasn't sure what it was until I looked it up, but it was most likely zinc oxide fumes being released.
Zinc Oxide can be toxic in large quantities, and although it's never happened to me, claims are that it can cause metal fume fever, which gives flu like symptoms.
You should also know that brass is over 3 times heavier than aluminum, so expect the crucible to have a lot more weight to it, making it harder to handle.
My dad was visiting at the time and confirmed my thoughts about it by suggesting I try making something more practical and useful. So I thought it would be fun to make some "Brass Knuckle" paperweights.
I looked online at different varieties of brass knuckles, then drew my own version in photoshop, and used the "Styro-Slicer" and the lost-foam casting technique to make a rough pair of knuckles.
I cast another pair the same way, and spent another 8 hours sanding and buffing them up to a mirror finish, then wondered how I could take them to the next level.
Spikes seemed like a cool idea, inspired by a picture I saw on a google image search, so I stopped at an alternative clothing store and picked up a spiked choker collar, and repurposed the spikes for my piece of metal art.
These are not designed or intended to be used as weapons. Possession of Brass Knuckles is illegal in most countries, (but not where I live), however I created these simply for artistic expression, and use them mainly as workshop décor. (paperweights).

This 2012 video, "Flight of the Bumblebee," is the title tune on CANADIAN BRASS' premiere Steinway & Sons label release, and, the first recording with all of the new permanent members of the ensemble: Chuck Daellenbach (tuba), Chris Coletti and Brandon Ridenour (trumpets), Achilles Liarmakopoulos (trombone) and Eric Reed (horn). After 40 years, the BRASS have maintained a remarkable consistency in their style and virtuosity, even as the individual members have gradually changed.
Nominated for a Juno award in 2013, "Canadian Brass Takes Flight" is the first recording featuring the Brass' new, gold-plated Conn-Selmer & Bach instruments. The repertoire includes favourite encores, new arrangements, and world premieres. As with their other recent releases, this disc is an audiophile sonic blockbuster, produced by Dixon Van Winkle and MB Daellenbach.
Brandon was inspired to write this arrangement of "Flight of the Bumblebee" for his colleagues by the trumpet and piano arrangement he and his father Rich Ridenour created for their own duo.

Brass
Brass is a metal alloy made of copper and zinc; the proportions of zinc and copper can be varied to create a range of brasses with varying properties. It is a substitutional alloy: atoms of the two constituents may replace each other within the same crystal structure.

Taylor Swift
Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter. Tinto Brass
Giovanni Brass (born 26 March 1933), better known as Tinto Brass, is an Italian filmmaker. In the 1960s and 1970s, he directed many critically acclaimed avant-garde films of various genres. Today, he is mainly known for his later work in the erotic genre, with films such as Caligula, Così fan tutte (released under the English title All Ladies Do It), Paprika, Monella (Frivolous Lola) and Trasgredire.
Career

In the 1960s and 1970s, Brass was considered a promising experimental and avant-garde director, and his debut film Who Works Is Lost got very favorable reviews after screening at Venice Film Festival 1963. In 1964, he was comissioned by Umberto Eco to create two short films experimenting with visual language for the 13th Triennale di Milano – Tempo Libero and Tempo Lavorativo. Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, Brass directed films in many genres, including western (Yankee) and crime (Col cuore in gola), all using a very experimental editing- and camera-style. In 1968, Paramount Pictures offered Brass the job of directing A Clockwork Orange, which did not happen due to scheduling conflicts. In an article about the filming of Dropout from 1970, he was called the "Antonioni of the 70s". His early period has been referred to as "rebellios [sic], anarchistic and experimental".

William Tell (opera)
Guillaume Tell (English: William Tell, Italian: Guglielmo Tell) is an opera in four acts by Gioachino Rossini to a French libretto by Étienne de Jouy and Hippolyte Bis. Based on Friedrich Schiller's play William Tell, which drew on the William Tell legend, the opera was Rossini's last, although he lived for nearly forty more years. The overture, in four sections and featuring a depiction of a storm as well as a vivacious finale, the "March of the Swiss Soldiers," is often played.
Charles Malherbe, archivist at the Paris Opéra, discovered the original orchestral score of the opera at a secondhand book seller's shop, resulting in its being acquired by the Paris Conservatoire.
Performance history
It was first performed by the Paris Opéra at the Salle Le Peletier on 3 August 1829, but within three performances cuts were being made and after a year only three acts were performed. The opera's length, roughly four hours of music, and casting requirements, such as the high range required for the tenor part, have contributed to the difficulty of producing the work. When performed, the opera is often cut. Performances have been given in both French and Italian. Political concerns have also contributed to the varying fortunes of the work.

Plot: In a film advertised and sold as a Damon Runyon story, but actually combined elements from his "All Scarlet" and another story written by J. Robert Bren and Norman Houston called "Odds Are Even", horse breeder Tom Martin, in a streak of bad luck, is persuaded by his daughter Doris to enter a mare in the feature race at the county fair. There, Martin rejects a tout's proposition to throw the race, and he also meets his old friends, the "Judge" and the "Warbler". The race starts and the mare, just short of reaching the wire and winning the race, is crowded into the rail and ruined as a racer. The Martins return home, where Ruth busies herself in training a colt, Katydid. She enters the horse in a claiming race at Santa Anita, where she gets lots of publicity as a novelty girl trainer.Wealthy, amateur horseman Steve Wendall offers her a job as trainer of his stable, but she refuses. Katydid wins but is claimed by Bradford, Wendall's trainer, on behalf of Wendall, who has done so simply to get Ruth to accept his job offer. She does, and goes East and then to Europe, winning time and again with the Wendall horses she has trained. But there is a falling out between Ruth and Wendall, who doesn't think Katydid can win the Santa Anita, and Ruth who thinks Wendall has had the horse kidnapped to keep it out of the race.

An indirect suggestion my dad made for me to try and make something practical out of brass. He didn't expect I'd end up making these!
WARNING: Brass Knuckles are illegal in most countries, and metal foundries can reach temperatures in excess of 1,000ºC, which is well above the melting point of hobbyists. This project should only be attempted with adequate knowledge and training, proper protective safety gear, and in a fire resistant area with adequate ventilation. The heat from the foundry can easily burn, and inhaling excessive amounts of zinc fumes can cause metal fume fever. Use caution and common sense. Use of this video content is at your own risk.

The weather has cooled off quite a bit, which has turned my interest back to keeping warm by casting metal.
This time round I wanted to play with higher temperature metals, like brass. So I made a trip to a local shooting range, and salvaged a whole bucket-load of spent brass casings.
Quite a few people have asked whether my backyard foundry can melt brass, and I was curious myself, so I threw a few handfuls of casings into a crucible and fired them up.
I tried using lump charcoal because it burns hotter and faster than briquettes, and a clay crucible purchased from the internet because it withstands heat better, and lasts longer than steel.
I was impressed that the brass melted down without hesitation, and I was able to easily cast mini brass muffins the same day.
A couple things worth mentioning are that the melting point of brass is around the boiling point of zinc. I noticed this in real-life when the metal started bubbling, and shooting out white flames. I wasn't sure what it was until I looked it up, but it was most likely zinc oxide fumes being released.
Zinc Oxide can be toxic in large quantities, and although it's never happened to me, claims are that it can cause metal fume fever, which gives flu like symptoms.
You should also know that brass is over 3 times heavier than aluminum, so expect the crucible to have a lot more weight to it, making it harder to handle.
My dad was visiting at the time and confirmed my thoughts about it by suggesting I try making something more practical and useful. So I thought it would be fun to make some "Brass Knuckle" paperweights.
I looked online at different varieties of brass knuckles, then drew my own version in photoshop, and used the "Styro-Slicer" and the lost-foam casting technique to make a rough pair of knuckles.
I cast another pair the same way, and spent another 8 hours sanding and buffing them up to a mirror finish, then wondered how I could take them to the next level.
Spikes seemed like a cool idea, inspired by a picture I saw on a google image search, so I stopped at an alternative clothing store and picked up a spiked choker collar, and repurposed the spikes for my piece of metal art.
These are not designed or intended to be used as weapons. Possession of Brass Knuckles is illegal in most countries, (but not where I live), however I created these simply for artistic expression, and use them mainly as workshop décor. (paperweights).

After 40 years, the BRASS have maintained a remarkable consistency in their style and virtuosity, even as the individual members have gradually changed.
Nominated for a Juno award in 2013, "Canadian Brass Takes Flight" is the first recording featuring the Brass' new, gold-plated Conn-Selmer & Bach instruments. The repertoire includes favourite encores, new arrangements, and world premieres. As with their other recent releases, this disc is an audiophile sonic blockbuster, produced by Dixon Van Winkle and MB Daellenbach.
Brandon was inspired to write this arrangement of "Flight of the Bumblebee" for his colleagues by the trumpet and piano arrangement he and his father Rich Ridenour created for their own duo.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – It has become the catchphrase of this offseason — of every offseason, really:
“Depends upon what the market will bear.”
The expression is your handy answer if you want to know how many veterans the Tigers will trade, which starting pitcher the Rays will deal, whether the White Sox will move Chris Sale or Jose Quintana.
It also is the answer if you want to know how strongly the Oakland Athletics will consider trading right-hander Sonny Gray, catcher Steven Vogt and left-handed reliever Sean Doolittle.
The A’s are not shopping any of those players, according to major-league sources — heavens, no, teams never shop players, they only listen!
A’s officials, however, recognize that the team is unlikely to compete for the AL West title in 2017, leaving them open-minded to trade proposals for their top players.
The A’s intend to build around a core of talented young starting pitchers — Sean Manaea, Jharel Cotton, et al. The goal of any trade would be to add players at the same level of service or below, increasing the team’s depth going forward.
Gray, 27, and Vogt, 32, both are under club control for three more seasons through salary arbitration. Doolittle, 30, is under contract for $2.6 million next season and $4.35 million in 2018, with options of $6 million and $6.5 million in the two seasons after that.
The Athletics, even in a thin market for starting pitching, probably would not want to sell low on Gray, who is coming off his worst season, including two trips to the disabled list.
Vogt also was not at his best in ’16, but still has value — his .711 OPS was the same as free-agent catcher Matt Wieters’.
Doolittle, meanwhile, could be the prize of the group, considering the contracts that Aroldis Chapman, Kenley Jansen and Mark Melancon are expected to command in free agency.
True, Doolittle missed more than two months with a strained shoulder. But he gradually increased his velocity after returning on Sept. 2, averaging 95 mph in his final four outings.
The A’s can hold him until the non-waiver deadline, gambling that his trade value will only increase, along with Gray’s and Vogt’s. Or they can act on one or all of them this offseason, continuing a process they started with their trade of left-hander Rich Hill and outfielder Josh Reddick to the Dodgers for Cotton, lefty Frankie Montas and righty Grant Holmes on Aug. 1.

For Texas, a more modest approach
The Rangers want to add a starting pitcher, but don’t expect them to renew their pursuit of the Rays’ available starters: Chris Archer, Jake Odorizzi and Drew Smyly.
The teams had extensive trade discussions before the non-waiver deadline, but the Rangers chose a different direction, sending three prospects to the Brewers for catcher Jonathan Lucroy and reliever Jeremy Jeffress.
That deal — plus the trade of five prospects for left-hander Cole Hamels and reliever Jake Diekman at the 2015 deadline — left the Rangers more protective of their remaining youngsters.
The Rangers also do not appear as motivated as other clubs on free-agent starters such as lefty Rich Hill, leaving them likely to add a mid- to bottom-of-the rotation type in some fashion.
One GM noted a difference in this year’s trade market, saying, “no team is pushing the reset button” — in other words, entering a full rebuild.
The Braves, Phillies and Brewers took deliberate steps back last offseason, drawing accusations of “tanking.” The White Sox and Tigers, on the other hand, figure to retreat, but not to such a dramatic extent.
Right fielder Adam Eaton, under club control for five more seasons at below-market salaries, is a good example of the difficult choices the White Sox face.
Eaton, who turns 28 on Dec. 6, could be part of the Sox’s next contending team. But by the time the Sox are good again, he also might be in decline.
It might be best for the White Sox to act now when his value is peaking.
At least for now, the Diamondbacks’ new management team seems content to keep Yasmany Tomas, who hit 31 homers and had an .820 OPS last season but still rated as a -0.1 in Fangraphs' Wins Above Replacement due to his poor defense in the outfield.
Tomas, who turns 26 on Monday, is clearly more of an American League player, and will earn $48.5 million over the next four seasons if he exercises his combined $32.5 million player option for 2019 and ’20.
Those numbers should look more attractive to AL clubs once Yoenis Cespedes and Edwin Encarnacion sign lucrative free-agent contracts.

Installing A Brass Guitar Nut: Cut From Scratch.
I think I murdered my nut slotting files with this one. Cutting a brass nut from scratch is time consuiming but worth it in the end. It looks beautiful installed and seems to work just fine. As for any tonal difference...??? I have no idea. Not to my untrained ear.

The Fun Pimps would like to wish you all a Happy Easter and to celebrate we’ve served up a rather massive Alpha 14 update. We know it’s late but in our humble opinion it’s pretty great. For those of you who felt 13 was a grind or that we peaked at 12 we have addressed a lot of issues with balance and grind and fixed hundreds of bugs.

7 Days to Die Key Game Features:
• Random World Generation - Play Navezgane or roll the dice and dive back into the game with friends in a randomized world with huge cities, towns, rivers, lakes, mountains, valleys, roads and wilderness locations.
• Upgradable Fort Building - Player built structures are assembled from framework which can be upgraded supporting wood, scrap metal and cobblestone upgrade paths. Hammer away just like real building and use Land Claim blocks to protect your fort in PvP.
• Structural Integrity - Buildings and terrain formations which are too unstable can fall apart if proper supports are not built. Some building materials are stronger than others and pieces which break off and fall can be dangerous or deadly if they fall on you or enemies.
