He was a pundit on BT Sport and their cameras caught the moment he showed his real colours.
As soon as Wijnaldum's header had hit the back of the net Gerrard was jumping up and down while punching the air.
His passion also came through at half-time when the Reds were 1-0 down. He protested that referee Mark Clattenburg shouldn't have given a foul for Adam Lallana's challenge on Eden Hazard 25 yards away from goal.
Adam Lallana gave away the foul that led to David Luiz's goal when he fouled Eden Hazard
He was left angry, and said: 'I disagree with Mark's decision for two reasons: one, he miscontrols the ball. If that's in the penalty area you'd never get a penalty for it. Outside the box the rules have got to be the same.
'The contact is minimal and he [Hazard] leans into Lallana, so there's no way in the world that's a free-kick.'
The draw left Liverpool 10 points off Chelsea who are out in front in the Premier League.
