Die-hard New England fans name their son Brady who was born just minutes before the Patriots historic Super Bowl comeback

  • Sean and Colleen Gaffney had their fourth child, Brady, at 8:49 on Sunday night
  • Just moments after he was born, the Patriots deficit dropped down to 25 points
  • From that point on, New England stormed back and won game 34-28 in overtime
  • After the win, the Gaffneys decided to name their son after the star quarterback

A Massachusetts couple believes their son being born during the Super Bowl led to the Patriots incredible comeback victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Sean Gaffney, 41, from Plymouth, Massachusetts, told the Cape Cod Times he knew the arrival of his son would be the turning point in what had been a torrid game for the Patriots up until that point.

The boy was born at 8:49pm, just four minutes before the Falcons scored to extend their lead to 25 points. At that point, New England had a 99.8 per cent chance of losing the Super Bowl.

From that point on, the Pats stormed to an incredible victory. As the confetti was still falling in Houston, back in northeast at the Falmouth Hospital, the Gaffneys decided to name their boy 'Brady' in honor of the star quarterback.

And Brady's mom backed up her husband's claim, saying the arrival of their fourth child was just what the Patriots needed.

'It was literally the middle of the third quarter,' Colleen Gaffney, 35, told the Cod Times.

'My husband's like, "Now! You have to have this baby so they come back."

The little Brady shared his middle name, James, with another star for the Patriots - running back James White, who scored the winning touchdown.

However, his parents said that name was chosen to honor his grandfather, not the running back.

The Gaffneys have a history with quarterback-themed names for their children, with Brady's six-year-old sister, Quinn, named after his father's favorite Notre Dame star - Brady Quinn.
