Battle of the Bands is a contest in which two or more bands compete for the title of "best band". The winner is determined by the general response of the audience or the band who brings the most people to support them. Traditionally, battles of bands are held at live music events and forums. Popular examples include the yearly Live and Unsigned contest in the United Kingdom and the annual SoundWave Music Competition.
A Battle of the Bands is a contest in which many bands, usually rock or metal bands, but often musical acts from a range of different styles, compete for the title of "best band". The winner is determined by a panel of judges, the general response of the audience, or a combination. The winning band usually receives a prize in addition to bragging rights. Prizes usually include cash, free recording time in a local recording studio, support or main slot at a local or large gig, a piece of new equipment, or a gift certificate.
Battles of bands are sometimes held as part of a live music event; they are also commonly held at high schools and universities. The term "Battle of the Bands" is a trademark in Canada, held since 1998 by the Toronto promotions company Supernova Interactive.
My Little Pony: Equestria Girls is a 2013 Canadian–American animated musical comedy film and a spin-off of the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic animated television series. Written by Meghan McCarthy and directed by Jayson Thiessen, the film premiered across limited screens in the United States and Canada on June 16, 2013, with worldwide home media release that began on August 6, 2013, which was followed by broadcast on the Hub Network, a joint venture between Discovery Communications and Hasbro, on September 1, 2013.
The film re-envisions the main characters of the series, normally ponies, as teenage human characters in a high school setting. Set between the show's third and fourth seasons, the film's plot involves the pony Twilight Sparkle pursuing her stolen crown into an alternate world where she transforms into a human, teenage girl. While learning how to behave as a human, Twilight encounters human counterparts of her pony friends, who help her in her search for her crown. The film's release is tied in with the expansion of the My Little Pony toy line to include teenage human versions of the main characters, and also commemorates the 30th anniversary of the launch of the original My Little Pony toy line.
The Honda Battle of the Bands (sometimes abbreviated The Honda or HBOB) is an annual marching band exhibition in the United States which features performances by bands from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Sponsored by the American Honda Motor Company, the Invitational Showcase takes place in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia in late January.
The Honda Battle of the Bands Celebration Tour takes place between the months of September and November at regular season football games, although Honda Battle of the Bands (and its abbreviations) is often intended to refer only to the invitational showcase, which first took place in 2003. Seemingly contradictory to the name, Honda's "battle" is not a competition in the traditional sense; that is, no winner is crowned during the event. Rather, the bands compete for the favor of the audience, each other, and the greater community. The 2016 event had a nearly sold out crowd with 63,000+ fans and spectators in attendance.
A high school (also secondary school, senior school, secondary college) is a school that provides adolescents with part or all of their secondary education. It may come after primary school or middle school and be followed by higher education or vocational training.
The term "high school" originated in Scotland, with the world's oldest high school being Edinburgh's Royal High School from 1505. The Royal High School was used as a model for the first public high school in the United States, Boston Latin School founded in Boston, Massachusetts.
The precise stage of schooling provided by a high school differs from country to country, and may vary within the same jurisdiction. In all of New Zealand and Malaysia, along with most of Britain and parts of Australia, Bangladesh and Canada, high school means the same thing as secondary school, but instead of starting in 9th grade, these "secondary schools" begin at ages 11 or 12.
In Australia, high school is a secondary school, from Year 7 or Year 8 through to Year 12, varying from state to state. High school immediately follows primary (elementary) school; therefore, a Year-7 Australian high-school student is sometimes as young as 12. In Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory, the term "high school" generally refers to Years 7–10, whereas the term "College" is used for Years 11–12. In Victoria the term "secondary college" has largely replaced the term "high school" following the reforms of the Labor Government in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Some schools have retained the name "high school" (such as Melbourne High School) and many have now dropped the "secondary" and are simply known as "college".
The Human Jukebox is a nationally renowned band representing Southern University and A&M College located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The band is anchored by the Isaac Greggs Band Hall on campus. Dr. Isaac Greggs (Doc) was a well-known band director who led the band for 36 years (1969 - 2005). In addition to having the music hall renamed in his honor, he was inducted into the Louisiana Black History Hall of Fame in 2013.
The Human Jukebox has been consistently recognized as one of the top marching bands in the country by USA Today, NCAA, and ESPN.
The Human Jukebox has performed at the Super Bowl six times as of 2015 and has a long-standing reputation of making appearances at many types of highly visible and exclusive events. For example, in April 2015, the Human Jukebox and Dancing Dolls performed for the grand introduction of Floyd Mayweather in the MGM Grand Arena of Las Vegas for "The Fight of The Century".
Since 1969, the Human Jukebox has been accompanied by The Fabulous Dancing Dolls. The Dolls are well-known for their high-energy performances and stylish dance uniforms. A notable highlight in Dolls' history is when they were invited to perform with world pop-star Madonna for her live Super Bowl halftime performance in 2012.
