Frida is a 2002 American biopic drama film which depicts the professional and private life of the surrealist Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. It stars Salma Hayek in her Academy Award-nominated portrayal as Kahlo and Alfred Molina as her husband, Diego Rivera. The movie was adapted by Clancy Sigal, Diane Lake, Gregory Nava and Anna Thomas from the book Frida: A Biography of Frida Kahlo by Hayden Herrera. It was directed by Julie Taymor. It won two Academy Awards for Best Makeup and Best Original Score.
Frida begins just before the traumatic accident Frida Kahlo (Salma Hayek) suffered at the age of 18 when a trolley bus collided with a motor bus she was riding. She is impaled by a metal pole and the injuries she sustained plague her for the rest of her life. To help her through convalescence, her father brings her a canvas upon which to start painting. Throughout the film, a scene starts as a painting, then slowly dissolves into a live-action scene with actors.
Frida also details the artist's dysfunctional relationship with the muralist Diego Rivera (Alfred Molina). When Rivera proposes to Kahlo, she tells him she expects from him loyalty if not fidelity. Diego's appraisal of her painting ability is one of the reasons that she continues to paint. Throughout the marriage, Rivera cheats on her with a wide array of women, while the bisexual Kahlo takes on male and female lovers, including in one case having an affair with the same woman as Rivera.
Frida Kahlo de Rivera (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈfɾiða ˈkalo]; July 6, 1907 – July 13, 1954), born Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón, was a Mexican painter known for her self-portraits.
Kahlo's life began and ended in Mexico City, in her home known as the Blue House. Her work has been celebrated in Mexico as emblematic of national and indigenous tradition, and by feminists for its uncompromising depiction of the female experience and form.
Mexican culture and tradition are important in her work, which has been sometimes characterized as naïve art or folk art. Her work has also been described as surrealist, and in 1938 André Breton, principal initiator of the surrealist movement, described Kahlo's art as a "ribbon around a bomb". Frida rejected the "surrealist" label; she believed that her work reflected more of her reality than her dreams.
Kahlo had a volatile marriage with the famous Mexican artist Diego Rivera. She suffered lifelong health problems, many caused by a traffic accident she survived as a teenager. Recovering from her injuries isolated her from other people, and this isolation influenced her works, many of which are self-portraits of one sort or another. Kahlo suggested, "I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best." She also stated, "I was born a bitch. I was born a painter."
Salma Hayek Pinault (born September 2, 1966) is a Mexican-American film actress, producer and former model. She began her career in Mexico starring in the telenovela Teresa and went on to star in the film El Callejón de los Milagros (Miracle Alley) for which she was nominated for an Ariel Award. In 1991 Hayek moved to Hollywood and came to prominence with roles in Hollywood movies such as Desperado (1995), Dogma (1999), and Wild Wild West (1999).
Her breakthrough role was in the 2002 film Frida as Mexican painter Frida Kahlo for which she was nominated in the category of Best Actress for an Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Golden Globe Award. This movie received widespread attention and was a critical and commercial success. She won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in a Children/Youth/Family Special in 2004 for The Maldonado Miracle and received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2007 after guest-starring in the ABC television comedy-drama Ugly Betty. She also guest-starred on the NBC comedy series 30 Rock from 2009 to 2013.
"Going On" is the second single taken from Gnarls Barkley's second studio album The Odd Couple. It is played in an upbeat hip hop and blues style. The track is also featured on the video game NBA 2K9. It was nominated at the 2009 Grammy Awards for 'Best Pop Performance'. "Going On" uses a sample from the track "Folder Man" by Please. The sample is repeated throughout the song, and comes from 1:30-1:35 from the original song. The song is also featured in a 2010 FIFA World Cup commercial by Puma AG, entitled 'The Journey of Football', featuring the Ghanaian national football team. The single was only released on a promotional format.
The music video was released on May 9, 2008. It was shot in Jamaica and revolves around a group of people celebrating the discovery of a door that leads to another dimension. Gnarls Barkley does not appear in the video, but one of the main characters does the lip-synching of the song for the first verse. After that, the lead male and female in the video carry the door to a distant field. They then watch as the door opens. The female then throws a rock through the open doorway and, as it reaches the threshold, the space inside the frame splits into several shards of different colors. The two crouch down slowly in front of the door, exchange a glance, and then the male sprints toward the open door and disappears. On the other side of the door, where the male would have appeared had he not disappeared, the words "DON'T FOLLOW ME" appear. The female doesn't see the words and also sprints towards the door and likewise disappears.
Pablo Neruda (/nəˈruːdə/;Spanish: [ˈpaβ̞lo̞ ne̞ˈɾuð̞a]) was the pen name and, later, legal name of the Chilean poet-diplomat and politician Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto (July 12, 1904 – September 23, 1973). He derived his pen name from the Czech poet Jan Neruda. Neruda won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971.
Neruda became known as a poet when he was 10 years old. He wrote in a variety of styles, including surrealist poems, historical epics, overtly political manifestos, a prose autobiography, and passionate love poems such as the ones in his collection Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair (1924). He often wrote in green ink, which was his personal symbol for desire and hope. He married Bethany Poulton, aged 23 and they divorced 4 years later.
The Colombian novelist Gabriel García Márquez once called Neruda "the greatest poet of the 20th century in any language."Harold Bloom included Neruda as one of the 26 writers central to the "Western Tradition" in his book The Western Canon.

Plot: 'Dreamz' is a tapestry of touching stories of 13 women, with abusive and tragic pasts. They are struggling with their broken identities, and yet striving to forge ahead. They are each on their individual path of self-discovery and self-restoration, in an enabling college environment, till one day a common crisis of a friend's accidental death unites them. Along the way, their own inhibitions and insecurities are exposed and we discover the pasts of each of these girls; pasts that affect the way they handle the death of their friend and the subsequent truth behind it. An osmosis of experiences leads to degrees of transcendence and healing in each of them. Based on the true life stories of underprivileged girls from over 22 countries studying on special scholarships at NIILM University in India under the aegis of the Rai Foundation, 'Dreamz' sheds light on the various levels of abuse and discrimination that women, even today, in all parts of the world, experience and endure. The stories of the 13 protagonists cover a cross-section of modern-day concerns such as rape, oppression, humiliation and sexual abuse that thrive as much in urban societies and the developed world much as they do in rural villages and third-world countries.

Documentary - The Life and Times of Frida Kahlo Documental sobre la pintora Frida Kahlo. Frida Kahlo de Rivera (July 6, 1907 -- July 13, 1954; born Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón) was a Mexican painter, born in Coyoacán, and perhaps best known for her self-portraits. Kahlo's life began and ended in Mexico City, in her home known as the Blue House. She gave her birth date as July 7, 1910, but her birth certificate shows July 6, 1907. Kahlo had allegedly wanted the year of her birth to coincide with the year of the beginning of the Mexican revolution so that her life would begin with the birth of modern Mexico. At the age of six, Frida developed polio, which caused her right leg to appear much thinner than the other. It was to remain that way permanently. Her work has been ce...

I hear the lines on the telegraph
Buzz in my head
I have to shut them out
My ears to the ground
But I try to stand up
And straighten out
Forget my doubt
'Cause I couldn't bear to lose you
You're the only one I care for
But I can't lock out the rumours
I shut my eyes so I won't see because
One little lie can go a long way (one little lie)
One little lie can go a long way (one little lie)
Would I learn to trust again some day
I try to ask but my tongue gets tied
When I guess the answer
If you turned you head away from me
I know I'd stand there forever
Caught out in time by a line
That I wanted you to deny
And you'd laugh and laugh 'till I cried and cried
I can't shut out the rumours
Burning inside me all the time
One little lie can go a long way (one little lie)
One little lie can go a long way (one little lie)
Would I learn to trust again some day
Every day turning away
I feel something new
If I can't put my trust in you then
We've got nothing worth hanging on to
It's hard to talk sometimes now
You seem so far away
Am I losing my mind
Oh help me please
Say it's not true what the people say
It hurts
In my heart
'Cause I couldn't bear to lose you
You're the only one I care for
But I can't forget the rumours
Don't shut your eyes so I won't see because
One little lie can go a long way (one little lie)
One little lie can go a long way (one little lie)
Would I learn to trust again some day
One little lie can go a long way (one little lie)
