Puthiya Niyamam

Puthiya Niyamam (English: New Law) is a 2016 Indian Malayalam thriller film written and directed by A. K. Sajan. The film stars Mammootty and Nayantara in the lead roles, along with Baby Ananya, Sheelu Abraham, Aju Varghese, Rachana Narayanankutty, Vinay Forrt and Jayaraj Warrier in supporting roles.

In July 2015, it was reported that Mammootty and Nayantara would play an inter-caste couple in A. K. Sajan's forthcoming film. The film was reported to be initially planned with Suresh Gopi in lead. It was also reported that Sajan initially wrote the script with Renji Panicker in mind for the lead role, with Muthumani as heroine. But after hearing the script, Renji noted that the script demands a "larger scale" production and suggested Mammootty for the lead role. As per Ranji's suggestion when Sajan approached Mammootty, the offer was immediately accepted by him. Regarding the characters, A. K. Sajan says, "Mammootty's character in the film, Louis Pothen, almost mirrors his real life personality. He's an easy-going lawyer, who is also a film critic and has a socialist leaning. However, Nayanthara's character Vasuki is diametrically opposite." The principal photography commenced on 21 August. The film was initially titled Solomonte Koodaram, but later changed to Puthiya Niyamam. The title of the film was revealed through its first look poster on 27 October 2015. The filming was completed by October 2015 in Ernakulam and Thrissur.

A. K. Sajan

A. K. Sajan is a Malayalam screenwriter and director who is best known for his directorial debut Stop Violence (2002). The movie had debutant Prithviraj Sukumaran and Chandra Lakshman in the lead roles. He is also best known for scripting many superhits in the industry, His notable works are Dhruvam (1993), Butterflies (1993 film) , kashmeeram (1994)Crime File (1999) Chinthamani Kolacase (2006).*Nadiya Kollappetta Rathri (2007). Wherein *Chinthamani Kolacase (2006) is considered to be his finest work till date. His brother AK Santhosh is also a script writer and have scripted various movies like sooryaputhran, minnaminuginum minnukettu, and a tamil - malayalam bilingual movie vande matharam.

Career

Began his film career as a story writer for some movies in late 1980's. In the early 1990 he pitched the story idea of Dhruvam (1993), and began to pen the script. By mid 1991 with the completed draft he approached Joshiy, and the film started to roll. Dhruvam was a blockbuster in box office and was among the top grossers of 1993.His next movie Butterflies (1993 film) with Mohanlal also turned out to be a blockbuster. In 1994 kashmeeram (1994) with Suresh Gopi in the lead emerged as a super hit which reaffirmed stardom for Suresh Gopi. From there on, they both established as a pair and later worked on several films together. Their notable films were kashmeeram (1994) ,Crime File (1999), Chinthamani Kolacase (2006),Nadiya Kollappetta Rathri (2007). His directorial debut was in 2002 with the movie Stop Violence starring Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead.The movie depicted the life of dark underworld prevailed in the city of kochi. upon its release it garned critical acclaim for its bold and realistic approach in making.
