It was a rainy, dreary day in Los Angeles for the very pregnant Jackie star despite the bright spot of award's ceremony festivities.

Natalie Portman nearly burst out of her raincoat as she got caught in the rain early on Monday, before heading to the 89th Annual Oscars Nominees' Luncheon.

The 35-year-old could only manage to fasten the top two buttons on her outerwear as she tried to shield her ever-growing baby bump from the elements.

The No Strings Attached actor was visibly annoyed by the wet weather as she made her way down the sidewalk with her mouth drawn tight in a bit of a grimace.

Under her water-resistant jacket she wore a black and white horizontal striped henley top, stretched taught over her pregnant belly, with black trim along the neckline.

With black and white wellies on foot, the expectant mother, who is due to give birth to her second child with husband Benjamin Millepied some time this spring, was more prepared for the rain than the average Los Angeleno.

Later in the day, on-lookers would never know the morning had gotten off to such a dismal start.

Natalie smiled brightly, looking polished and vibrant as she posed against the step and repeat the Oscars nominees' luncheon at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills.

The Black Swan Oscar winner wore a draping black frock, cinched just above her protruding abdomen with a piece of matching fabric tied in a boat knot.

The sensible actor and producer wore simple, sling-back pointed-toe flats.

Natalie has been nominated for the 2017 Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in Pablo Larrain's biographical drama, Jackie.

She is up against Isabelle Hupert for her role in Elle, Loving's Ruth Negga, La La Land's Emma Stone and Florence Foster Jenkins' Meryl Streep. 

The 89th Annual Academy Awards will be held on February 26 and will air on ABC at 7.00pm Eastern.
