Huma Abedin and her estranged husband Anthony Weiner have been pictured together for the first time since September. 

The former couple were seen on Monday in New York City, out and about with their five-year-old son Jordan.

The pictures show disgraced politician Weiner retrieving his son's monkey backpack from the back of a Ford Escape.

The father and son were then seen walking away hand in hand.  Abedin, a longtime Hillary Clinton aide, was stonefaced and covered her eyes with large sunglasses.

Abedin announced their separation in August, after Weiner became the center of yet another sex scandal 

The last time that the two were pictured in public together was in September - one day before news broke that Weiner had been sexting with a 15-year-old girl. 

Just a month before, Abedin had finally broken up with Weiner when it came to light that he had continued to sext with another woman.

That scandal involved a different woman who Weiner sent sexual pictures of himself to. One of the photos showed Weiner posing only in his briefs, while his son napped nearby. 

The Wall Street Journal reported last week that the U.S. Attorney's Office is considering charging Weiner with production of child pornography for the photo. 

Despite the serious legal ramifications for the pictures, the couple have continued to co-parent their son together. 

Sources told the New York Post last month that Weiner continues to spend a lot of time at their old apartment and was hoping for a reconciliation with his wife of six years. 

'He knows he’s hit rock bottom. But now they are both out of the limelight, they can focus on their son. They are actually getting on pretty well, and he and his friends are hoping that they might reconcile,' the source said. 

But her marriage is just one of many issues that Abedin is facing, now that Clinton lost the election. 

The political operative hoped to be working in the White House by now, but instead she's left pondering what to do next. 

Sources also told the Post that she has been having some serious conversations with leaders in the fashion industry. 

Just last month she was caught dining out with fashion designed Prabal Gurung, Marie Claire Editor-in-Chief Anne Fulenwider and and Vogue Editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. 

Her dinner with Gurung took place on January 27, and sources told the Post that 'she looked serious and it seemed like they were having an intense conversation'. 

The same was said of Abedin's earlier dinner with Wintour, a major Democratic party donor.
