'Granny-killer' who strangled 32 elderly women 'is caught on camera': Police fear man seen prowling around Russian apartment block could be serial killer
- Russian police have released CCTV footage showing a suspected serial killer
- The suspect has strangled nearly three-dozen women since the start of 2011
- The man befriends the women across the Urals and is believed to be 5'6 tall
- Police fear the man is about to resume his killing career after a five year hiatus
A spooky CCTV video may show a notorious 'granny-killing sadist' who has 'murdered 32 female pensioners', say Russian police.
The newly-released footage highlights a man believed to be aged between 27 to 33 who is seen prowling around flats in a Kazan apartment block.
The serial killer has evaded police since a murderous blitz in 2011-12 when he befriended and then strangled almost three dozen elderly women in their own homes across the vast Urals region.
Russian police believe this man may have killed 32 elderly women between 2011 and 2012
This CCTV footage was recorded in October as a strange man was seen in a Kazan flat complex
Police believe this man was 'peeping into flats' looking for future potential victims
The man's victims are all aged between 75 and 90 according to local police
Investigators fear that the just-released footage from October last year shows the 5ft 6 inches 'maniac' peeping into flats of possible future victims.
They issued warnings that he could strike again despite a lull of almost five years in his campaign.
They have also re-issued identikit pictures of the man, who is believed to come from the Udmurtia region of Russia, home of the Kalashnikov rifle.
His known victims were all aged between 75 and 90, and police urged pensioners to be vigilant as they issued a new £40,000 reward for information leading to his capture.
He appears to kill for the sake of it, although investigators believe that sometimes he took small sums of money.
They suspect he had access to lists of addresses of pensioners and called on them, initially offering to help them.
The suspect is believed to have killed 32 women in a two-year period according to police
It is understood the killer told some of is victims he was from the local council
Police have offered a 3 million rouble bounty if someone has information on the killer
He told some pensioners that he was from the council, believe police.
Among the regions where he is alleged to have struck are Sverdlovsk, Chelybinsk, Tatarstan and Samara.
Senior investigator Ivan Streltsov said: 'We have serious grounds to suppose that he is a resident of Udmurtia.'
He killed three pensioners in regional capital Izhevsk.
'For any information that helps to identify the criminal, we guarantee a payment of 3 million roubles.
'If needed, we will guarantee anonymity.'
He warned such serial killers may pause but 'can never stop themselves', and more murders should be expected if he is not caught.
He has been compared the 'sadist' to Russia's worst-ever female killer 'Satan in a Skirt', Irina Gaidamachuk, now 46, who was jailed for 20 years after killing 17 elderly women, prompting concerns he is a copycat killer.
Her murderous spree was also in the Urals.
She too pretended to her victims that she was from the council.
Police pictures of the man describe him as being aged 27 to 33, about 170 cm high, slim body, dark hair, dark eyes, straight nose, middle size lips.
He may be of Tatar appearance and dresses in a dark textile jacket, sports trousers, and trainers.
