Selfies are supposed to be spontaneous; capturing a moment in time that can instantly be shared across social media. 

However, as the series of photographs below prove, when you're not setting up a shot with precision, things - often of an X-rated nature - can sometimes get in the way.  

Less overt photobombing and more subtly shocking, this collection of self portraits include everything from a pair of amorous giraffes to a no-shame nose picker and sex toys sneaking into shot.

Elsewhere, there's the man who showing off his bulging biceps in the mirror - except his grey-haired mother - clearly proud of her boy's physique - can be seen lurking in the background which makes the shot not quite so macho.

Another selfie fan shows off his war wounds, a large graze on his forearm...but look closely and someone is baring all in the background.

Sex toys pop up frequently too, including in a shot showing a bouquet of tired-looking tulips on a bed, with a dildo sitting pretty in the background. 

Another marital aid gets a cameo in a shot of a woman taking a selfie of herself in the bathroom.

A woman who decides to flash her breasts while being caressed by an admirer makes a star turn in a nightbclub selfie and another lady can't hide her surprise as a man in very tight trousers leaves little to the imagination while walking down the sidewalk. 

The moral of the story? Millions of selfies are taken every day...and just because you don't own the camera, it doesn't mean you're not going to be captured on film.
