Everyone loves a salon treatment, especially when it's luxe. But if getting to the salon sucks the bliss out of the experience – just when is it supposed to fit into your power-broking schedule – why not be your own therapist. Turns out there are plenty of sophisticated products that can transform you into a DIY beautician, as well as equipment you can use at home to achieve sparkling salon results.

And if you're addicted to wrinkle paralysers, you can even dial some in. LUXit & Ageless Clinics have recently started home deliveries of injectables to its Sydney clientele via a team of carefully selected nurses.

You can also make any treatment feel like an at-home spa experience by using spa tricks, says Emma Hobson, of the International Dermal Institute and Dermalogica. These include placing a few drops of essential oil on your temples to relax you before you start, applying products with a brush rather than your fingers, using CDs or downloads of tranquil spa sounds during your DIY treatment, and relaxing with the lights down and an eye mask on while applying a leave-on-and-wait product.

Here is our pick of at-home products so effective or luxurious they imitate the salon experience or produce salon-worthy results.

PEELS

Since we discovered the joys of totally exfoliated, more youthful skin, peels have proliferated on the DIY beauty market. Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Medi-Spa Peel ($160), a two-step treatment designed to be used once a week, is a firm favourite. This clinical-grade peel mimics the effects of an in-clinic treatment to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pores and uneven skin tone. mecca.com.au

Philosophy Microdelivery Overnight peel ($110) is also a two-step process to fight loss of firmness, wrinkles and enlarged pores. A combination of micro-exfoliant and peel, it's gentle yet effective. Tel: 1800 812 663.

For those with extra-sensitive skin, there's the SKEYNDOR DermaPeelPRO Resurfacing Peel Concentrate ($145), which combines acids and bio-peptides in a resurfacing serum. Tel: 1800 554 545.

MASKS

Masks are the icing on any salon facial. Erno Laszlo White Marble Sheet Mask ($100) is a true salon-quality treatment designed to reduce dark spots and restore luminosity with intense hydration in 10 minutes. sephora.com.au. Add a salon touch by steaming first with HoMedics' Cleansing Facial Sauna ($49.95). homedics.com.au

Can't get enough of treatment masks? Achieve dewy freshness with the aptly named Magic Stripes Hyaluronic Facial Treatment Mask ($62), good for complexions dehydrated by a heatwave. Or try Chantecaille Detox Clay Mask ($116). It feels super luxurious and smells heavenly, just like you are at a spa. mecca.com.au

Eminence's Lime Stimulating Mask (HOT) ($107) is high in natural phyto-hormones and vitamins as well as thermal waters to supply fresh minerals to the skin. We also love Napoleon's slightly space-age Collagen Hydrogel Face Mask, which firms and tones skin with honey, caviar, salmon egg and, of course, collagen. Masks come in individual packs, $15. napoleonperdis.com

MANICURES AND PEDICURES

Treat feet like a beauty therapist with HoMedics PedicureSpa Salon Footbath ($109.95). Its pull-out pedicure system has a spinning action to smooth rough skin, and comes with five salon attachments: dry heel reducer, stone pumice, finishing pumice, nail brush and nail buffer. The footbath also offers a hydro-healing massage, in case you just want to relax. homedics.com.au After this pro treatment, feet of either sex will be ready for summer sandals, even in the boardroom.

If you're a Shellac addict, try the Sephora by OPI Gelshine At-Home Gel Colour System ($159), comparable to three in-salon gel manicures. There are 16 colours to choose from, and the application process isn't any harder than a regular manicure.
