2018 Holden Commodore Sportwagon revealed

Stylish new load lugger breaks cover boasting more room than Aussie-made model.

More style, more space and more technology.

Those are the highlights of the 2018 Holden Commodore Sportwagon unveiled by the company today. The carmaker has labelled the new wagon its "flagship" model, and has packed it with interior and safety technologies to fit the bill.

Like the 2018 Commodore sedan, the Sportwagon will be available with all-wheel-drive equipped with torque-vectoring, along with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Power comes from the same engine line-up as the sedan, including turbocharged four-cylinder engines in both petrol and diesel (front-wheel-drive only) along with the 230kW/370Nm twin-turbo petrol V6 for AWD models.

Holden claims there is up to 1640 litres of space in the cargo area. The powered tailgate can be opened with a hands-free 'kicking' motion and opening-height can be altered in areas with limited space. The rear seats fold 40/20/40 for additional flexibility.

Safety tech includes lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, LED IntelliLux headlights, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive suspension (Tour, Sport or Standard settings) and a head-up display.

Holden claims the 2018 Sportwagon will be up to 200kg lighter than the locally-built model it replaces, thanks mainly to lightweight construction materials.

Inside, there's massaging seats with heating and ventilation, 'fast' electric windows and Active Noise Cancellation, while the infotainment system includes an eight-inch LCD instrument display along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Hang on - another motoring publication stated that 'The new Sportwagon will boast rear-seat down space of 1640 litres '. If that is the case it is smaller than the current VF Sportswagon rear-seat down of 2000 litres? Seats up is 895 litres?

Hmm, not a bad shape but a Commodore Wagon needs a V8. I don't think hat the new Commodore will be a big seller. I have nothing against twin turbo 6cyl but this is a bit wheezy.

massaging seats...???? really? don't care about them this thing is ONLY going to be 200kg lighter because of lightweight materials? what about the fact it will be a fair bit smaller (Mazda 6 wagon sized)? The one thing in all this pre-release noise that is missing is... PRICE! The 4cyl versions better not be more than $31-32k driveaway and the V6 version... no more than mid 30s otherwise its a dead duck in the market Holden have dropped their soon to be imported new Opel Holden into!

That's a huge typo, the V6 is not a twin turbo or single turbo for that matter, and that's the problem, after initially saying we would get a TT hero OPC model there is no performance coming at all to the range. IF GM needed twin turbo's to make a paltry 230kW/370Nm from a 3.6l V6 they should pack their bags immediately as that is easily achieved by an NA engine, which is what this engine is.

Does not do it for me. I would prefer to buy a real German car. Just another Opel. You don't see many on the roads any more... And made overseas... Holden will be in for a big wake up call. Just like when the heads of Americans motor icons jetted in for a bail out during the GFC to be told by Obama to walk back...

Just looks like another Mazda/Passat/Skoda. Sadly, the only real plus I see is Apple Airplay. I think I'll keep enjoying my VF wagon...

I'm in no way a Camry fan. I think they are a blight on our roads, but why would you buy an imported FWD GM product ahead of a v6 Camry? Chevy Australia have made a big mistake here.

Wow, cue the if it's not a V8 it's not a Commodore crowd, people get a life the V8 is dead and soon to buried get over it, given that Commodore was an Opel to start with this just completes the circle.
