Are these the cheapest oysters EVER? Supermarket sells the renowned aphrodisiac for just 25p ahead of Valentine's Day to get lovers in the mood
- Morrisons is selling oysters for £1.50 for six or 25p each at fresh fish counters
- They usually sell for between £1.50 and £2 each at restaurants, if not more
- Offer only available until Valentine's Day - they usually sell for 60p at Morrisons
- High zinc levels in oysters are thought to trigger testosterone production
Oysters are synonymous with luxury and lavish lifestyles: but this week you can try the slippery delicacies for just 25p.
Morrisons is selling the renowned aphrodisiac for the very low price to help lovers get in the mood ahead of Valentine's Day next week.
If you buy oysters at a restaurant, you can expect to pay between £1.50 and £2 per oyster normally, if not more, while Waitrose and Tesco sell theirs for 79p and 75p each respectively.
Morrisons has slashed the price of its oysters to 25p each - or £1.50 for a pack of six - to help lovers get in the mood ahead of Valentine's Day next week
Morrisons has slashed the price of its oysters from 60p to 25p each - or £1.50 for a pack of six - after researchers found that 40 per cent of Brits have never tried the so-called 'food of the gods' before.
Now the supermarket is buying in 200,000 of them from Scotland - reported to be two thirds of the UK's retail stock of oysters - ahead of Valentine's Day.
Oysters are supposedly aphrodisiacs - foods that claim to trigger sex hormones that get us in the mood.
It's the high zinc levels in oysters which may improve the sex drive by triggering the production of testosterone - but scientific evidence to back up this claim is limited, and opinions on the topic from experts are mixed.

Seafood specialist for Morrisons Andrew Speight (pictured) says half of British oysters are usually shipped abroad so the supermarket is buying in 200,000 from Scotland to make sure lovers have an aphrodisiac this Valentine's Day
The verdict is out then on whether oysters are really a true aphrodisiac - or just a Valentine's Day marketing ploy.
But regardless of whether or not they can improve your sex life, the delicacies are hailed by foodies for their salty-sweet flavour and slippery feel.
Morrisons' research said that one in 10 people would like to try an oyster but are often put off by the price, while another 60 per cent are certain they would dislike them.
Seafood specialist Andrew Speight said: 'Morrisons is making this exclusive shellfish affordable, offering customers a taste of luxury for the average price of a pack of crisps.

'Half of our British oysters end up being shipped abroad and we thought our customers might like more for themselves.'
The supermarket is putting on oyster preparation classes for first-timers at 219 of its stores for those unsure about how to eat them.
It has also put together a video of people trying them for the first time - with mixed results.
Some love them - but some pull faces and squeal after slipping one down their throat.
It's not the first time the supermarket has slashed the price of its oysters. It sold the seafood for the same price for Valentine's Day last year too.
The offer lasts until February 14. Oysters are available individually or in packs of six from fresh fish counters.
