The Goonies never say die.

But unfortunately Josh Brolin's football team did.

The 48-year-old actor looked glum as he left Super Bowl LI in Houston, Texas hand-in-hand with his wife Kathryn Boyd late Sunday night.

No doubt the disappointment came as his team the Atlanta Falcons blew a 28-3 lead an ultimately lost out to the New England Patriots by a score of 34-28.

It seemed like Josh couldn't even bare to represent the colours of his Georgia-based squad as he was spotted holding onto his Matt Ryan jersey instead of wearing it out of NRG Stadium.

The veteran actor could not hide the look of dismay on his face but did hold hands with his former assistant-turned-wife while leaving the event.

Kathyrn still proudly sported her bright red jersey of the quarterback under her black leather jacket.

She completed the biker-inspired look with a pair of black jeans and matching leather ankle buckle booties.

Her long blonde locks were worn down flowing over her shoulder as she let her natural looks show with complimentary make-up on her face.

Josh kept it simple in a black jacket over a matching button-down, relaxed-fit jeans and brown leather boots.

Regardless of the outcome the newlywed couple seemed to enjoy their time at the event as they both kept active on Instagram. 

In one snap, Josh proudly held up an Atlanta Falcons helmet while Kathryn pointed towards it.

As The Goonies star was born in Santa Monica, no doubt many would be surprised that he is a fan of a team on the opposite side of the country but Josh explained: 'My wife being from Georgia, we are full blown at Super Bowl L1 for Falcons with @kathrynbrolin.'

The two wed in North Carolina back in September of last year.

Kathryn was Josh's assistant for two years before they started a romantic relationship.

Before Boyd, the Sicario actor was wed to Diane Lane, 51, from 2004 until 2013.
