Target shooting the .30 M1 Carbine at a laser-measured 250 yards in a stiff 10-15 mph wind. Using iron sights, no scope. This rifle is a 1943 Inland/General Motors. I'm using AR500 steel targets from Mike Gibson Targets. Ammo is 110 grain FMJ from Prvi Partizan.
This open-sight shooting exhibition showed the accuracy potential of the M1 carbine at what many believe is at or beyond its effective range. However, it also showcased how the lower velocity of this round compared to newer cartridges (or .30-06 from an M1 Garand, for example) causes the bullet to drop like a rock. The comparative lower energy delivered at this distance was also notable.
This session was cleared with the property owners of a huge tract of land, surround by more large tracts of land. Backstops were confirmed. No cattle were harmed during the production of this video.
Filmed with two Sony HD AVCHD camcorders; HDR-CX560 at 28 mbps 60p and HDR-CX110 at 24 mbps. Edited using Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11, MP4, 30p, 16 mbps.
I take my commercial DWM German made Luger out to the range and do some shooting. My Luger was made in the 1920's and is chambered for .30 Luger. I also field strip the Luger and show you guys how interesting this turn of the century pistol is.

My first day out with my FX Boss .30 PCP Air Rifle. The gun severely out-shot me on this day. In fact, one might say I brought shame to the FX name - hahaha. In time, I will improve, and you will see a LOT fewer misses. The truth is that this gun is better suited for crushing mid-sized mammals. The report is quiet, considering the power. But, it is louder than its .25 and .22 counterparts (FX 500, FX 400). The increase muzzle blast helped to alert the agile house sparrows and starlings to the incoming pellet. Consequently, you see many of them jumping well before the pellet reaches them.

First shots with the new Ruger Blackhawk chambered in .30 Carbine. Sturm Ruger Blackhawks are very common single action revolvers. They are made in several different calibers. The vast majority being in .357 magnum and 45 Colt. The 30 carbine chambering is a little rare, but not that hard to find.
Same cartridge that was used in the WWII M1 Carbine.
Very loud and hits hard, but with light recoil.
Picked this revolver up at a gun show about 3 weeks ago.

7.62 mm caliber
7.62 mm caliber is a nominal caliber used for a number of different cartridges. Historically, this class of cartridge was commonly known as .30 caliber, the Imperial unit equivalent, and was most commonly used for indicating a class of full power military main battle rifle (MBR) cartridges. The measurement equals 0.30 inches or 3 decimal lines, written .3" and read as Three-Line.
7.62 mm refers to the internal diameter of the barrel at the lands (the raised helical ridges in rifled gun barrels). The actual bullet caliber is normally 7.82 mm (.308 in), although Soviet weapons commonly use a 7.91 mm (.311 in) bullet, as do older British (.303 British) and Japanese cartridges.

M1 carbine
The M1 carbine (formally the United States Carbine, Caliber .30, M1) is a lightweight .30 caliber semi-automatic carbine that became a standard firearm for the U.S. military during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and was produced in several variants. Easy to use, it was widely used by U.S. and foreign military, paramilitary and police forces, and has also been a popular civilian firearm.
In selective-fire versions capable of fully automatic firing, the carbine is designated the M2 carbine. The M3 carbine was an M1 or M2 with an active infrared scope system. Unlike conventional carbines, which are generally shorter-barreled versions of a longer parent rifle (like the earlier .30-40 U.S. Krag rifle and carbine and the later M16 rifle and M4 carbine), the M1 carbine fires a different cartridge and has only one part, a short buttplate screw, in common with the M1 rifle.

Target shooting the .30 M1 Carbine at a laser-measured 250 yards in a stiff 10-15 mph wind. Using iron sights, no scope. This rifle is a 1943 Inland/General Motors. I'm using AR500 steel targets from Mike Gibson Targets. Ammo is 110 grain FMJ from Prvi Partizan.
This open-sight shooting exhibition showed the accuracy potential of the M1 carbine at what many believe is at or beyond its effective range. However, it also showcased how the lower velocity of this round compared to newer cartridges (or .30-06 from an M1 Garand, for example) causes the bullet to drop like a rock. The comparative lower energy delivered at this distance was also notable.
This session was cleared with the property owners of a huge tract of land, surround by more large tracts of land. Backstops were confirmed. No cattle were harmed during the production of this video.
Filmed with two Sony HD AVCHD camcorders; HDR-CX560 at 28 mbps 60p and HDR-CX110 at 24 mbps. Edited using Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11, MP4, 30p, 16 mbps.

My first day out with my FX Boss .30 PCP Air Rifle. The gun severely out-shot me on this day. In fact, one might say I brought shame to the FX name - hahaha. In time, I will improve, and you will see a LOT fewer misses. The truth is that this gun is better suited for crushing mid-sized mammals. The report is quiet, considering the power. But, it is louder than its .25 and .22 counterparts (FX 500, FX 400). The increase muzzle blast helped to alert the agile house sparrows and starlings to the incoming pellet. Consequently, you see many of them jumping well before the pellet reaches them.

Same cartridge that was used in the WWII M1 Carbine.
Very loud and hits hard, but with light recoil.
