Cindy Crawford says modelling is ‘like a sport you can get better at’ in her newest covershoot for Vogue Australia.
WHEN you’re one of the greatest supermodels of all time, stunning on the covers of magazines might seem like an easy feat.
But for Cindy Crawford it’s a skill she’s honed over a career that spans close to three decades.
The 50-year-old appeared on the latest cover of Vogue Australia and in her accompanying interview likened her career to a sport.
“(Modelling) is like a sport that you can get better at,” she told the magazine.
“Even though you get older, you’re like an ageing athlete who knows the game,” she added.

And few know the game like Crawford who is still lauded as one of the original five “supermodels”.
After appearing on the iconic British Vogue cover in 1990, “supermodel” became a term Crawford was unable to shake.
“At first I thought the word ‘supermodel’ was ridiculous,” she admitted to Vogue Australia.
“I remember thinking: ‘that is so cheesy, it will never stick’. I was wrong, and now everyone is a supermodel,” she laughed.
Her experience in the modelling industry has taught the 50-year-old plenty and now Crawford is offering advice to all the young up and comers.
“You can be a pain in the ass as a model, high-maintenance and hungover and they will put up with it for a while if you’re the hot new kid on the block,” she said.
“But that gets old and soon there is another new hot thing. But if you’re professional, ready to work and trying to learn, you are bringing something to the table.”
And it just so happens there’s a “new hot thing” pretty close to Crawford as her daughter Kaia Gerber steps into the modelling spotlight.

The 15-year old has already begun building a solid modelling portfolio, most recently shooting the cover for Love Magazine with her pal and reality star Kendall Jenner.
While Crawford admits she isn’t worried about Kaia choosing modelling as a career, there is one thing that concerns her.
“I have no concerns with Kaia wanting to do it and she respects me because I’ve been there and I feel like I’ve been a great mentor,” Crawford said.
“The only concern I have for her, and it isn’t an issue, is that in the modelling world I hit the top, and if she doesn’t it might be a lot of pressure for her. If you have a successful parent and you go into the same business but if you’re not more successful, then what?” Crawford said.
The March issue of Vogue Australia with Cindy Crawford on the cover goes on sale Monday, February 13.
