Twitter Ads Policies

This policy applies to Twitter’s paid advertising products, which are Tweets, trends and accounts.

What's the policy?

Twitter prohibits the promotion of products or services that distribute or facilitate access to materials that infringe the copyright of others globally.

In addition, Twitter will respond to reports of alleged copyright infringement, which includes copyright infringement in promoted content. For details about how we handle reports, please see our Copyright and DMCA policy. If we remove or disable access to promoted content under our Copyright and DMCA policy, we will notify users with a DMCA notification and also remove the content from promotion.

What products or services are subject to this policy?

This policy applies, but is not limited, to:

  • Sites promoting the unauthorized distribution of copyrighted content, such as:
    • P2P file-sharing sites
    • Sites selling physical copies of backed-up or pirated content
    • Sites that aggregate copyrighted content from sites without authorization
  • Software that bypasses Digital Rights Management (DRM) for media, such as:
    • Decryptors
    • Plug-ins or toolbars providing access to pirated content
  • Tools used to facilitate illegal copying of media, such as:
    • Cable descramblers
    • Blu-Ray rippers

How does this policy vary from country to country?

This policy applies to Twitter Ads in all countries.

What do advertisers need to know about this policy?

Advertisers should secure permission for content they post in Tweets or in their Twitter profile. If you are unsure whether you hold rights to a particular work, please consult an attorney or another adviser as Twitter cannot provide legal advice.
