Before 2015 comes to a close, we’d like to share
some of the many improvements we’ve made in recent weeks to Yahoo Search on
mobile web in the U.S. Through constant iteration and experimentation, our aim
is that collectively, these small but mighty changes will connect you more
immediately with the answers you’re looking for, and help you discover
interesting and related information.
When
searching for your favorite celebrity, you’ll notice:
Twitter integration: In today’s
connected world, the best answers include the conversations and commentary that
are happening on social media. Now, we’ll connect you immediately with top
tweets related to your celebrity searches right on the results page.
A new image search: We’re bringing
you a new way to discover pictures of your favorite celebrities. Find photos of
the celebrity first, then explore additional photo sets based on trending
content that other users have engaged with– be it photos of Angelina Jolie’s
wedding dress, tattoos, red carpet look and more.
When
searching for the news of the day, you’ll see:
A results refresh: Now you can stay
on top of the latest news stories right from the search results page. We’ve
also tweaked our algorithm to bring you the most recent and popular stories up
top in the news results stream.
We’re AMP compatible: News in Yahoo
Search on mobile web is now compatible with a recently released mobile web
standard for Accelerated Mobile Pages (ie: AMP). AMP architecture is designed for pages to load super fast
on Mobile. News pages published with AMP would automatically direct users to
that experience on Yahoo Search.
You can take advantage of these updates by opening
your favorite mobile browser today and searching on Yahoo. You can also open
your mobile browser’s settings and set Yahoo as your default search engine.
We’ve updated the Yahoo Search app on iPhone, to help you find the information you
need on the go, whether it’s on the web or in your inbox.
Now, we’ll bring your answers front
and center, so you can connect immediately with the information you’re
searching for. And thanks to partners like Yelp and OpenTable, we’ll deliver
relevant results and allow you to take action directly from the search results
page.
Since so much of the information we’re
looking for on a daily basis is buried in our email, we’ve integrated Yahoo
Mail so that if you’re signed in, it’s easy to find web and email results in
one place. The app can now search
across your emails, contacts and calendar events to help you quickly
find things on your phone like:
Package delivery notifications
Friends’ contact information
Hotel and rental car reservation details
Upcoming calendar events
We believe that search should be more
than a list of blue links – it’s about helping you, the user, take action.
Today, we’re taking steps to move search toward a more contextual, anticipatory
and assistive experience. We’ll continue to roll out a number of experiments
and updates going forward.
This new experience is live in the
U.S. today for users of iOS8 and above. To check it out, update or download the
Yahoo Search app from the App Store.

Today, we’ve revamped Yahoo image search by not only showing you the best Web results but also by displaying images from Flickr. Now, if you’re signed in, your search will display personalized results from Flickr*, including a selection of your own photos, images from people you follow and top public photos on Flickr. Don’t forget Yahoo also has advanced search options, like color and size, that now apply to both images from the Web and Flickr. And if you’re looking for a photo to use, just select the use case you need in the “License” drop-down menu.
There’s also a new “More images” button that appears on each category of Flickr image results and links directly to Flickr.com for even more photos.
This new Yahoo image search, featuring Flickr results, is available to users in the U.S. on desktop today.
*We will only display Flickr photos from your personal account if you have images relevant to your search.
This Sunday is the big game, and Yahoo users are ready for some football! While most of the country will be watching the NFL Super Bowl XLIX from the comfort of their couches, Yahoo users want to watch the action go down live and in-person. This month on Yahoo, searches for tickets to the game are spiking a whopping 10,070%!
And while the Super Bowl is mostly about the game itself, who can deny a good Super Bowl party? And if one thing is for sure, it’s that Yahoo users are serious about their Super Bowl snacks. This week, searches for [super bowl appetizers] and [super bowl snacks and recipes] are spiking off the charts.
In November, we announced our partnership with Mozilla and have worked closely with their team to bring a sleeker, modern search experience to millions of Firefox users in the US.
We’re excited by the early response and are looking forward to continuing to work together with Mozilla to push the technology forward - improving the user experience on search and bringing the best of the web front and center.
If you’re using Firefox, it’s simple to make Yahoo your guide to the web:
Click on the search icon in your search bar. Then choose “Change Search Settings”.
Under “Default Search Engine” select Yahoo from the drop down menu.
We look forward to rolling out the new search experience to all browsers. To learn how to set your default search to Yahoo on any browser, please visit the Help Center.

What will your 2015 health trends look like? If they’re anything like the resolutions you set in 2014, chances are you will check-out a detox with a [colon cleanse], [liver cleanse], or even go so far as to try the [master cleanse], all of which were top searches in 2014.
We can’t contain our excitement for the holiday season! And based on the top searches on Yahoo over the past month, neither can you.
