Alex Belfield (born 14 January 1980) is a British radio presenter, singer, comedian and entertainer. He lives in Gedling, Nottinghamshire, where he was born and went to school.
In September 1997, Belfield was part of the launch team of Radio 106 where he began his professional career. In 1999, he was offered a six-month contract working Nairobi, Kenya presenting 'Belfield at Breakfast' at 98.4 Capital FM. He then returned to the UK to rejoin Century 106 for a third year working on the breakfast show.
In September 2001 he formally began his career as a talk/personality radio host when he joined BBC Radio Leicester and served as a presenter and producer for 18 months. Belfield then moved to Mansfield 103.2 FM in January 2004 to present Belfield's Lunchtime Mega Phone-in. At Mansfield 103.2, he established a reputation for developing a series of high-profile publicity stunts, the first one of which involved Belfield pretending to be fired live on air by Mansfield 103.2 managing director Tony Delahunty, and then reappearing the following day.
Alex is a common name used in multiple languages. In English, it is usually a diminutive of the male given name Alexander, or its female equivalent Alexandra or Alexandria. Aleck or Alec is the Scottish form of Alex. The East European male name Alexey (Aleksei, Alexis, Aleksa) is also sometimes shortened to Alex. It is a commonly used nickname in Spanish for Alejandro, Alexandro, Alejandrino and Alexandrino, and related names like Alexa and Alexis.
Kenneth Arthur "Ken" Dodd, OBE (born 8 November 1927) is an English comedian, singer-songwriter and actor, identified by his trademark unruly hair and protruding teeth, his red, white and blue "tickling stick" and his famous, upbeat greeting of "How tickled I am!". He also created the world and characters of the Diddy Men, with 'diddy' being Liverpudlian slang for small.
He works mainly in the music hall tradition, although, in the past, has occasionally appeared in drama, including as Malvolio in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night on stage in Liverpool in 1971; on television in the cameo role of 'The Tollmaster' in the 1987 Doctor Who story Delta and the Bannermen; and as Yorick (in silent flashback) in Kenneth Branagh's film version of Shakespeare's Hamlet in 1996. In the 1960s his fame in the UK was such that he rivalled the Beatles as a household name, with his recording of "Tears" being the UK's third best selling single of the 1960s. His records have sold millions worldwide. As of 2016 he continues to tour with his comedy and music show.
A radio program (radio programme in the United Kingdom) or radio show is a segment of content intended for broadcast on radio. It may be a one-time production or part of a periodically recurring series. A single program in a series is called an episode.
In Britain, radio broadcasting was dominated entirely by the BBC, which since the early 1920s had been developing a broad spectrum of programming including different genres of music and speech, including documentaries, drama, comedy, news, religious broadcasts, children's programmes, schools broadcasts and sports coverage). BBC output was a unifying force within British culture, and has been written about extensively elsewhere.
In the 1950s, a small but growing cohort of Rock and pop music fans, dissatisfied with the BBC's output, might listen to Radio Luxembourg, but to too small an extent to have any impact on the BBC's monopoly and invariably only at night, when the signal from Luxembourg was stronger. During the post-1964 period, western Europe offshore radio (such as Radio Caroline broadcasting from ships at anchor or abandoned forts) helped to supply the demand for the pop and rock music. The BBC launched its own pop music station, BBC Radio 1, in 1967.
Ever been fired? Imagine being fired Live on air to 1000's of listeners. Welcome to Tony Delahunty's school of Management at Mansfield 103.2! In 2002 Alex Belfield presented 'The Mega Phone-in' and it took far too many risks by today's radio dullness standards. It was great fun and gave Belfield the opportunity to show-off, have fun and wind up 260,000 listeners every single day. Alex loves Tone, a boss who got the show, loved to take risks and try something new. Delahunty has an ego bigger than Belfield's and couldn't wait to play along and join in the daily nonsense and shenanigans!!! Hear more clips of Alex Belfield @ www.celebrityradio.co.uk
