Jury retires in surgeon sex assault case

A jury has retired to consider its verdict in the case of an alleged sexual assault by a Gold Coast cosmetic surgeon.

Ces Colagrande is facing trial in the Southport District Court on one count of sexual assault after allegedly grabbing a woman's buttocks during a consultation at his offices in May 2015.

Dr Colagrande has pleaded not guilty to the charge, with his lawyer Peter Davis QC telling the court the woman has made up the claim after being dissatisfied with a breast enhancement he performed on her.

Mr Davis told the court the woman, a stripper and nude model, was determined to acquire the "largest breasts possible" and was upset when Dr Colagrande refused to perform a free operation or refund her.

"This is one of those dangerous cases where the events occurred where only two people are present," he said during his closing submission on Friday.

"She has a golden opportunity to lie if she wants to."

Crown prosecutor Melissa Wilson told the court the woman's reasons for enlarging her breasts were irrelevant.

"The reason for this trial is that she was sexually assaulted," Ms Wilson said.
