IN OTHER NEWS

The Daytime Emmy Awards were held last night, pathetically un-televised. The show wasn’t even available for livestreaming (although the pre and post show was), so the only way to follow it was on Twitter. For the first time in years no Days of Our Lives gay characters were nominated, but maybe that’s a good thing since they didn’t have to endure the indignity of televised awards banishment.

Speaking of soap gays, Van Hansis did show up, looking splendid. Unfortunately, he lost the Emmy yet again (he was nominated for Best Actor In A Digital Drama for Eastsiders, which was given out Friday at the Creative Arts ceremony, in which the Logo doc Matt Shepard Is A Friend Of Mine picked up an Emmy).

Days did manage to pick up a couple of awards, including Mary Beth Evans for Lead Actress, and inexplicably, True O’Brien for Younger Actress for Dead Paige.

You can see the full list here, which includes Tyler Christopher winning for Lead Actor for General Hospital, but of course I’ll always remember him best from years ago for winning Best Naked And Forlorn.

Kit Harington has a special message for Game Of Thrones fans. Meanwhile, some bozo on twitter ponders:

I haven’t watched Fear The Walking Dead since the first episode, but apparently last night the character of Strand (played by out Colman Domingo) was revealed to be gay in a series of flashbacks, culminating in a kiss with Dougray Scott. If the hysterical overreaction to gay characters on The Walking Dead is any indication, this probably did not go over very well in the fandom. (h/t Carlos)

And here’s The Weekly ShoutOUT™. Each week we’re going to focus on one out athlete/performer and feature a daily pic and career timeline. We’ll be showcasing the big names, but also the lesser-known gay and bisexual celebs who deserve more recognition.

This week our 164th ShoutOUT™ is to … Wesley Taylor.

29-year-old Broadway/TV/film star Wesley made his Broadway debut in the 2009 rock musical Rock of Ages, where he originated the role of Franz, and won a Theatre World Award for this role, and was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award. Here he is performing an adorable version of “Hit Me With Your Best Shot.”

Most Briefs lists involve the “best” or “greatest” of something, so for a change let’s switch it up, as Evil Snicks brings you The 30 Worst Music Videos Of All Time.

You’ll see debacles from major musical artists, as well as a few Youtube “stars.” Sure, it’s really easy to pick on desperate wannabes. It’s fun, too. But it proves that terrible can run the gamut from multi-million dollar productions to, well, a certain video named after a day of the week. You know the one.

At #5 is “Separate Ways” by Journey.

Journey was one of the greatest bands … EVER! … but music videos were never their (top) forte’. In fact, they pretty much all stunk, and “Separate Ways” was their first big “concept” vid. The concept being “let’s shoot on a dirty wharf and see how much random shit we can throw at the screen.” You’ve got invisible instruments, unfortunate close-ups, spastic band members, the most 80’s female model in history (white pumps!), and that infamous “keyboard on the wall.”
