An LGBTQ Solidarity rally took place in front of Stonewall Inn on Saturday.

New York City’s Stonewall Inn was the site of a series of demonstrations by the LGBTQ community following systematic harassment by police in the 1960s. Tensions came to a head when, in 1969 a police raid on the premises sparked a riot.

The site is known as the “birthplace of the modern Gay Rights movement” and in June Barack Obama announced that it would be the first national monument to commemorate gay rights.

Protesters from all across the country gathered at the Stonewall Inn in defiance of Donald Trump, and to voice their opposition to any possible reduction of their rights - such as same-sex marriage, adoption and anti-discrimination laws.
