'He gets to be The Bachelor': Kaitlyn Bristowe says Nick Viall is lucky she didn't pick him as her fiance

As the runner up on The Bachelorette, Nick Viall was publicly dumped by Kaitlyn Bristowe when she chose Shawn Booth as her fiance.

But Kaitlyn says Nick was lucky she didn't pick him - as he now gets to be The Bachelor.

The former Bachelorette star, who is currently engaged to Shawn, told Us Weekly: 'It worked out for him. He gets to be the Bachelor, and it worked out for me - I'm happy with Shawn.'

Her comments came after Nick said he was 'thankful' for her decision.

Kaitlyn responded : 'Of course I'm not hurt by that! I mean, I'm happily engaged to Shawn, and that's who I'm supposed to be with. So no, I agree with him.'

Adding: 'Why wouldn't he be happy we didn't end up together?'

Nick was the runner up during Kaitlyn's season as well as in season 10 - when Andi chose Josh Murray instead of him.

He said on Ryan's radio show that while 'Andi's a great young lady,' he 'couldn't be more thankful that she picked Josh,' via Us Weekly.

The Wisconsin-born star added: '[I'm even] more thankful that Kaitlyn picked Shawn.'

Kaitlyn accepted Shawn's marriage proposal during the Bachelorette season finale in July 2015.

While they still don't have a wedding date set in their planners, the former brunette says she and her fiance Shawn are 'happily engaged,' according to Us Weekly.

While she hasn't kept in touch with Nick, Andi and him are still in contact.

Kaitlyn said that 'Andi is single - they can have a friendship.' 

Nick currently stars on season 21 of The Bachelor, which premiered on January 2; the show is on ABC on Monday nights.
