Robin van Persie was branded a 'stupid motherf*****' for his controversial antics in Fenerbahce's 1-0 win over rivals Besiktas in the Turkish Cup on Sunday night.

The Besiktas captain Oguzhan Ozyakup, who briefly played alongside Van Persie during his time at Arsenal, was left incensed by the Dutchman's behaviour and admitted their friendship is over.

Van Persie scored Fenerbahce's second-half winner but was also involved in two flashpoints during the last-16 tie.

He was first involved in an off-the-ball incident that led to Dusko Tosic being sent off.

The striker appeared to knee Tosic in the ribs and grab him by the head as they wrestled for the ball, but the Besiktas player was sent off for his reaction while Van Persie remained on the pitch having fallen theatrically to the floor.

After the match, Tosic's wife, Jelena Karleusa tweeted: 'R.van Persie is one stupid motherf***er. Brake [sic] a leg a**hole!' She later deleted the post at her husband's request.

Then, after scoring his winning goal, Van Persie slid on his knees to celebrate in front of Ozyakup, who didn't take too kindly to the provocation.

He said afterwards: 'I have a lot to say about the incidents on the field. But I won't say them.

'Just one thing - I was very good friends with a certain player on the field. That changed today. Sometimes you see the real face of a footballer on the field.'

Midfield Ozyakup, who like Van Persie was born in Holland, played in Arsenal's academy side between 2008 and 2012 before making a couple of first-team appearances.

Van Persie helped him settle in London following his move to Arsenal from AZ Alkmaar.
