Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger takes a stroll for coffee with wife Ana Ivanovic after scoring in FA Cup win against Wigan

It has been a long time since Bastian Schweinsteiger has been able to take a casual Monday stroll after a weekend where he starred in a Manchester United victory.

Up until Sunday, Schweinsteiger had not made a start for United in 385 days, and for much of this season was training with the reserves after being cut out of manager Jose Mourinho's plans.

However he was in the starting XI against Wigan Athletic in their FA Cup fourth round tie, and the former German international even got on the score sheet with the final goal in United's 4-0 win.

There was no surprise therefore that Schweinsteiger looked happy and pleased with himself as he took a walk into Hale village with wife Ana Ivanovic for a cup of coffee.

When congratulated by the photographer on scoring his first goal at Old Trafford, he smiled, and said: 'No, this was my second, my first was for Bayern Munich.'

It was indeed his first home goal in the colours of the Red Devils since swapping Munich for Manchester in July 2015 for £12million.

Both he and Ivanovic, the former world No1 women's tennis player who retired from the game last year, were in keep-warm mode, wearing very similar jumper, black trousers and long black coat ensembles.

The only notable differences in their outfits were that Ivanovic had chosen orange knitwear, while Schweinsteiger plumped for the colours of his club and a red jumper.

The 32-year-old will hope this, and Sunday, are not the last times he will be wearing red this season.

Schweinsteiger has reaffirmed his desire to fight for his place at Old Trafford and has been reintroduced to first team training by Mourinho, but what role he will play with the first team as United seek a top four spot remains to be seen.
