Shooting at Australian Federal Police headquarters in Melbourne, one in hospital

A member of the Australian Federal Police is in hospital after a shooting in Melbourne on Monday evening.

The shooting occurred inside the AFP headquarters on La Trobe Street in the CBD about 5.45pm.

It is not clear if the injured person, reportedly a woman, is a sworn AFP officer.

Victoria Police initially reported a person received a gunshot wound while in the building.

"Police are not looking for anyone else connected to the shooting," a spokeswoman said.

In a statement, the AFP confirmed a member had been taken to hospital as a result of a shooting at its Melbourne headquarters.

"The cause of the incident remains under investigation and while this is being undertaken, including notification to family members, the AFP will not be making further comment at this time," the statement said.

"The AFP asks the privacy of those affected to be respected."
