The Queen seemed to be in especially high spirits today as she prepares to become the first monarch to reach a sapphire jubilee tomorrow.

Her Majesty seemed as spiritely as ever as she arrived a church service at St Peter and St Paul West Newton in Norfolk this morning.

The monarch, 90, could barely take the smile off her face as she greeted well-wishers awaiting her arrival.

The Queen, who was accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, was presented with several bouquets of flowers on Sunday morning including a posy from three-year-old Jessica Atfield.

The tot who was accompanied by her father has waited patiently in the chilly weather in the hopes to catch a glimpse of the royal.

The 90-year-old royal looked elegant for her outing this morning dressing in a mint ensemble with black accents as she made her way into church. 

Tomorrow will see the Queen mark 65 years since her accession celebrating her sapphire jubilee.

It seems that Her Majesty was slightly overloaded with flowers and had to call in extra help

The royal will make history on Monday as she will become the first British monarch ever to reach the milestone. 

She overtook the previous record set by her great-great grandmother Victoria at around 5.30pm on September 9, 2015, at the age of 89 - having been head of state for 23,226 days, 16 hours and some 30 minutes.

At 90, she is also the world's oldest monarch and, following the death of the king of Thailand last year, the world's longest reigning living monarch.

But the Queen has some way to go before she becomes the world's longest reigning monarch.

King Sobhuza II of Swaziland, who died in 1982, holds that title - he was just four months old when he became king and ruled for 82 years and 253 days.

It was estimated that he had about 210 children from at least 70 wives and by the time of his death had more than 1,000 grandchildren.
