Millions of Americans will turn their attention to the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons for Sunday’s Super Bowl, but off the field the professional footballers’ wives and girlfriends will be catching the audience’s eyes. 

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen, Tom Brady's wife, may have been the queen of the WAGs in previous years, but she has some fierce competition from the stunning women who will be hitting Houston, Texas, on Sunday.

Fellow Victoria Secret model Adriana Lima - who is also dating a Patriots star - certainly gives Gisele a run for her money.

Another beauty queen for the Patriots is linebacker Kyle Van Noy's wife Marissa Van Noy. 

The model and former Miss Utah USA  married Van Noy in 2014 after meeting in 2011. Marissa regularly posts lots of cute couple pictures of her and her husband, including one of them in matching Christmas sweaters, and another of them posted last month with the caption: 'We are going to the SUPER BOWL BABY.'

Other stunners include Siggi Bennett, the wife of Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett, Alyssa Mack, the wife of Atlanta Falcons center Alex Mack,  Lauren Mackenzie, fiancee of Falcons wide receiver Mohamed Sanu and Sarah Ryan wife of fellow Falcons player Matt Ryan.

Kick-off is at 6.30pm for the 51st Superbowl, which will be held in Houston. 

The New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons will face off for the year's glory and the Vince Lombardi Trophy, named in memory of the winning coach of the first two Super Bowls. 

The New England Patriots have reached the Super Bowl nine times, more than any other franchise in history.

Victory on Sunday would give them five wins, putting them level with the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers in the all-time standings. 

The trinity of owner Robert Kraft, head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady have enjoyed an unparalleled era of dominance since their first Super Bowl win in 2002. 

Sarah Ryan, wife of Matt Ryan - the Atlanta Falcons quarterback - will watch her husband take on the Patriots

While New England have enjoyed an era of success since 2002 with seven Super Bowl appearances, the Atlanta Falcons are still waiting for their first championship.

Sunday's finale is only the second time they have reached the Super Bowl, with their only other appearance coming in 1999, when they were beaten 34-19 by the Denver Broncos.

This year's pre-game national anthem will be performed by country music singer Luke Bryan while Grammy Award winner Lady Gaga will headline the halftime show.

Security will be of the utmost importance at the national event and more than 40 agencies will be working together to ensure the safety of the 73,000 expected to attend the event.  

The NFL has hired 4,000 private security personnel to assist those efforts.  

This includes US Customs and Border Security, whose agents have been screening trucks and drivers with high tech x-ray equipment, as well as checking manifests and paperwork to ensure agents know who is and what is coming into the stadium.

Once those trucks are screened, police escort the vehicles to a secured area.

Kick-off is at 6.30pm for the 51st Superbowl, which will be held in Houston (helmets outside NRG Stadium)
