A man has been charged after a taxi driver was found by police bound and robbed in Ipswich overnight.

Police say a man, 34, caught a taxi from Ipswich Road at Annerley to River Road at Bundamba where he allegedly produced a knife on the male driver, 42, just after midnight.

The man tied the driver's hands together behind his seat before taking cash and running from the scene, police say.

The dog squad and police searched the area after finding the taxi driver with his hands still bound.

A 34-year-old Kallangur man was found in a nearby residence and charged with armed robbery, fraud and contravene direction and is due in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday.

The driver was not physically injured during the incident.
