Battle of the boys: Louis Smith used his athletic ability to great effect to become the first The Jump contestant to progress through to the next round, at the expense of Spencer Matthews

Louis boasted before the event: 'Without blowing my own horn I kick butt at things like this. This is what I'm bred for when it comes to something physical, I'm top notch.'

Maybe if Spencer had focused more on his ski skills than his flirtatious behaviour he would have had greater success.

In his VT he claimed his lothario side wouldn't come out during the competition, telling the cameras: 'I don't think that side will come out on the slopes.

Hug it out: A disappointed Spencer admitted he was disappointed as he 'was in it to win it', but praised Louis's blistering start

'That cowbell is going to be taken back to Chelsea.'

However, instructor Graham Bell revealed his attention seemed to be on the ladies, a sentiment backed up by his co-star Caprice, who said: 'We we all know he's a flirt, he's flirted with everyone.'

In the second race, Robbie Fowler saw off Paralympian Kadeena Cox, crossing the line by a two-gate margin.

Sir Bradley Wiggins narrowly defeated Mark Dolan by around half a ski length, while Caprice and Amy Willerton's race was just as close, with the former coming out just on top in the battle of the beauties.

Spencer was the first celebrity to take on The Jump and scored a respectable 14.55 metres.

Upon landing, he couldn't resist complimenting Davina's look, with the host acknowledging his flirtatious streak.

Kadeena was next up and scored 13.8 metres, just shy of Spencer's marker, however, it was enough to see her beat Amy Willerton's 12.83 metres.

In the battle of the rugby greats, it was Gareth Thomas who had bragging rights, easily defeating Jason Robinson who fell early into their race.

Gareth was disappointed he couldn't win in a more competitive manner, telling Davina he was 'genuinely gutted'.
