CROWD 7669 at Whitten Oval.

WHY THE CROWS WON

Quite simply: Adelaide's ball movement was better and the Crows were more accurate. Sarah Perkins is so dangerous in attack but impressively Adelaide had a very healthy spread of goalkickers: Perkins leading the charge with two,  but Kellie Gibson, Angela Foley, Jenna McCormick, Rachael Killian and Jessica Sadunary all booting majors in a consecutive collective seven-goal haul for the side and a scoreline identical to what they registered last week to beat Greater Western Sydney.

THE PLAY OF THE GAME

Eleven points down at half-time, the Bulldogs returned to field noticeably more energised and scored the opening goal of the third term through Kirsten McLeod. But when a long bomb set shot from Perkins dropped short in the Crows' goal square and Killian pounced to major opportunistically, it started what was ultimately a game-defining three-goal rush from the visitors. The Bulldogs couldn't pull it back from there,  with the final margin 25 points.

THE MOMENT

Crowd figures in this new competition will continue to be a crucial and closely watched measuring stick of popularity. The sight of packed grandstands at Whitten Oval six days after 10,100 attended to see the Bulldogs play their inaugural AFLW match on a Saturday night was more than encouraging. In fact it had AFL staff in the stands smiling well before the official attendance for the round two opener was announced as 7669. Western Bulldogs' women's membership reached over 1000 this week according to the ground announcer and, perhaps even more than Saturday, the crowd rode every bump, even Bronx cheering an Adelaide miskick for a classic reception to visitors.

WHAT THE RESULT MEANS

Both opening-round winners, the Bulldogs and Adelaide were eyeing off a 2-0 start. In round three the Bulldogs host Melbourne in another prime-time Saturday night fixture. Though the lists are very different now that the AFLW is up and running, the seeds of rivalry between the Demons and Western Bulldogs have been well and truly planted thanks to the exhibition games they pioneered as pilot clubs for this competition. The Bulldogs will be all eyes on Saturday night's Melbourne-Collingwood clash. The Crows, meanwhile, stand as early competition hot shots. Erin Phillips, used in the middle to great effect in round two after her prominence forward in the opening round, was just one of many positives. The Crows host Carlton in round three.
