Michael Heilemann grew up in Denmark, has a BA. Computer Arts from University of Abertay Dundee in Scotland and today lives in New York with his wonderful wife.
He's been obsessed with interface design since hammering out D&D character sheets on his mother's typewriter in the late-80s. That turned into interface design for his dial-up BBS in the 90s and then into web and mobile applications as the decades rolled on.
In 2010 he joined Squarespace as the Director of Interface and has led the design and development on many major initiatives, including the core expression tools LayoutEngine and Style Editor, as well as the re-designed interface that was the foundation for Squarespace 7.
Today as the Director of Product Design he has the privilege of leading the design team behind the company's world-class product experiences shaping the future of the industry.
In his spare time he enjoys the company of his wife, exploring New York, traveling, and obsessing over film history. And a whole lot of other things. Like cats.
