Now and Later

Now and Later is a brand of fruit-flavored taffy-like candy manufactured by Ferrara Candy Company. The candy is formed into squares packaged in colorful paper. The original Now and Later colors were red, green and blue and many more. Throughout its lifetime, Now and Later has developed many unique flavors (see list below). Nineteen flavors are currently available in both the Traditional and Chewy variety.

The slogan "Share the Square", replaced the original "Eat Some Now, Kid."

History

The Phoenix Company goes back to 1919, when a little candy company in Brooklyn, New York, was turning out penny saltwater taffy. In 1953, Harry and Joseph Klein, a New York father and son team, purchased the Phoenix Candy Company from Charles Cari. The company was originally located in the Bush Terminal neighborhood of Brooklyn, in New York City. They began manufacturing Atlantic City style Salt-Water Taffy, Peanut Brittle and Halloween candy. In 1962, the Kleins brought in vacuum cookers to replace open fire kettles to save on cooking and cooling time. They brought in a German-made machine that produced 150 bars a minute and began production of Now and Later taffy candy bars. The name was selected to suggest to customers that they eat some of the taffy squares in the bar right away and save the rest for another occasion. By 1976, the Kleins had expanded the business to 16 machines which ran 2 shifts per day, six days a week. In 1978, Joseph Klein sold the Phoenix Candy Company to Beatrice Foods.

Filippo Lippi

Fra' Filippo Lippi, O.Carm. (c. 1406 – 8 October 1469), also called Lippo Lippi, was an Italian painter of the Quattrocento (15th century).

Biography and works

Lippi was born in Florence around 1406 to Tommaso, a butcher, and his wife. Both his parents died when he was still a child. Mona Lapaccia, his aunt, who being too poor to rear him placed him at the age of eight in the neighbouring Carmelite convent, where he was educated. In 1420 he was admitted to the community of Carmelite friars of the Priory of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Florence, taking religious vows in the Order the following year, at the age of sixteen. He would have been ordained a priest sometime around 1425, and was to remain in residence in that priory until 1432. Vasari writes that Lippi was inspired to become a painter by watching Masaccio at work in the Carmine church, and his early work, notably the Tarquinia Madonna (Galleria Nazionale, Rome) shows his influence. In his Lives of the Artists, Vasari says: "Instead of studying, he spent all his time scrawling pictures on his own books and those of others." The prior decided to give him the opportunity to learn painting.

Sage The Gemini (born Dominic Wynn Woods on June 10, 1992) is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer from Fairfield, California. He is a member of California's The HBK Gang. He is known for his single "Gas Pedal" featuring Iamsu!, produced by Sage the Gemini. "Gas Pedal" peaked at number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Sage's first top 40 hit; it also reached number six on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and number four on the Hot Rap Songs charts in 2013. Sage's song "Red Nose", which he produced himself, peaked at number 54 on the Hot 100 and at number 12 on the Hot R&B Hip-Hop Songs. Both songs were taken from his debut EP Gas Pedal, which peaked at number 29 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. He signed to Republic Records in August 2013. His debut studio album Remember Me was released on March 25, 2014. He has released the singles "Guantanamera" and "Good Thing" in May 2015 from his album Bachelor Party, planned for release in 2016.
