One of the most elegant structures in the architectural history of Delhi, the Hauz Khas Fort Complex nestles amidst beautiful landscapes and tranquil ambiance. Enclosed by immense greenery and the splendid beauty of a lake, it is a popular hangout-zone amongst youngsters. The place also encloses a Deer Park, a famous tourist attraction. It is located in Hauz Khas, close to Green Park, South Delhi. Built in the 13th century, it is one of the oldest structures in Delhi. It is a heart-throbbing hub of activities, a bird-watcher’s delight and a favored picnic spot for the locals.
Among the notable buildings that hold historical importance, Hauz Khas Fort Complex was initiated with the construction of a water-reservoir or the Royal tank (now known as the Hauz Khas lake) by Allauddin Khilji. He commissioned the reservoir to provide continuous supply of water to the inhabitants of Siri Fort. It was originally named as Hauz-i-Alai. Derived from an Urdu word Hauz, which means a Pond. Later, a number of monuments such as Mosques, Madrasas, Pavillions and Tombs were built adjoining the water-reservoir or the lake by several emperors. One of the prominent structures within the complex is the Tomb of Firoz Shah Tughlaq. The tomb which is very ascetic in appearance, was built by the emperor for himself. It is embellished with Quranic inscriptions. The Tomb now looks worn-out because of being ignored. The buildings seen on the hem, including halls and chambers, were constructed by Sikandar Lodhi. These were later converted in to Madrasa, a college for theological training. A number of cenotaphs can also be seen.
At present, what this fort offers to the visitors is unmatchable. Its capacious lawns are a perfect spot for out door sports. The relics offer boulevard and other arcane passages for people to explore. For a die-hard photographer, the place is a paradise. The splendor of the place is exceptionally photogenic. It captivates the spectator with its fusion of Indo-Islamic Architecture. The entourage is extremely mesmerizing during the sunset and the sunshine. The fort adduces a magnificent amalgamation of flora and fauna which is truly a delight for the eyes.
The precinct of Hauz Khas is a metropolis of medieval arts profused by artists, scholars and photographers from all across the mainland.

Hauz Khas is one of the more affluent neighbourhoods in South Delhi, its heart being the historic Hauz Khas Complex. It is centrally located and offers both rural (Hauz Khas Village) and urban (Hauz Khas Enclave, Market) environments.
Hauz Khas is surrounded by Green Park, SDA (Sri Aurobindo Marg) to the west, Gulmohar Park(Balbir Saxena Marg) towards the north, Sarvapriya Vihar (Outer Ring Road) towards the south and Asiad village (August Kranti Marg, Siri Fort) to the east.
It also is home to various diplomatic missions such as the ones of Albania, Iraq, Guinea Bissau, Burundi and Macedonia. Some well-known people like cricketer Virender Sehwag live here.

In Urdu language, 'Hauz’ means “water tank” (or lake) and ‘Khas’ means “royal”, giving it the meaning - the “Royal tank”. Khas people
The Khas (खस) / Khasas or Khɒsiyas is a community of people, who were the mountain dwellers living in the southern shadow of the Himalayan range of the Indian Subcontinent from Jammu & Kashmir to Bhutan in the present day countries of Pakistan(in Gilgit Baltistan), India (in the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, and the Darjeeling in West Bengal), Nepal, and Bhutan. Khas people in modern Nepal will not identify themselves as Khas, instead referring to themselves by the ethnic or caste identity.
According to 2011 census of Nepal, about 40% of total population are Khas.
The Khasas were a warlike tribe who built three capitals over time: Taklakot in Tibet, and Sinja and Dullu in Nepal. From the 11th century, their powerful kingdom, known as the Khas Empire /Malla Empire (not related to the Malla Kingdoms of the Kathmandu Valley), grew, covering much of west Nepal, Ladakh, Kashmir and western Tibet. As the empire fell apart during the 14th century, many of the ruling families migrated throughout Nepal.

One of the most elegant structures in the architectural history of Delhi, the Hauz Khas Fort Complex nestles amidst beautiful landscapes and tranquil ambiance. ...
One of the most elegant structures in the architectural history of Delhi, the Hauz Khas Fort Complex nestles amidst beautiful landscapes and tranquil ambiance. Enclosed by immense greenery and the splendid beauty of a lake, it is a popular hangout-zone amongst youngsters. The place also encloses a Deer Park, a famous tourist attraction. It is located in Hauz Khas, close to Green Park, South Delhi. Built in the 13th century, it is one of the oldest structures in Delhi. It is a heart-throbbing hub of activities, a bird-watcher’s delight and a favored picnic spot for the locals.
Among the notable buildings that hold historical importance, Hauz Khas Fort Complex was initiated with the construction of a water-reservoir or the Royal tank (now known as the Hauz Khas lake) by Allauddin Khilji. He commissioned the reservoir to provide continuous supply of water to the inhabitants of Siri Fort. It was originally named as Hauz-i-Alai. Derived from an Urdu word Hauz, which means a Pond. Later, a number of monuments such as Mosques, Madrasas, Pavillions and Tombs were built adjoining the water-reservoir or the lake by several emperors. One of the prominent structures within the complex is the Tomb of Firoz Shah Tughlaq. The tomb which is very ascetic in appearance, was built by the emperor for himself. It is embellished with Quranic inscriptions. The Tomb now looks worn-out because of being ignored. The buildings seen on the hem, including halls and chambers, were constructed by Sikandar Lodhi. These were later converted in to Madrasa, a college for theological training. A number of cenotaphs can also be seen.
At present, what this fort offers to the visitors is unmatchable. Its capacious lawns are a perfect spot for out door sports. The relics offer boulevard and other arcane passages for people to explore. For a die-hard photographer, the place is a paradise. The splendor of the place is exceptionally photogenic. It captivates the spectator with its fusion of Indo-Islamic Architecture. The entourage is extremely mesmerizing during the sunset and the sunshine. The fort adduces a magnificent amalgamation of flora and fauna which is truly a delight for the eyes.
The precinct of Hauz Khas is a metropolis of medieval arts profused by artists, scholars and photographers from all across the mainland.

Hauz Khas is one of the more affluent neighbourhoods in South Delhi, its heart being the historic Hauz Khas Complex. It is centrally located and offers both rural (Hauz Khas Village) and urban (Hauz Khas Enclave, Market) environments.
Hauz Khas is surrounded by Green Park, SDA (Sri Aurobindo Marg) to the west, Gulmohar Park(Balbir Saxena Marg) towards the north, Sarvapriya Vihar (Outer Ring Road) towards the south and Asiad village (August Kranti Marg, Siri Fort) to the east.
It also is home to various diplomatic missions such as the ones of Albania, Iraq, Guinea Bissau, Burundi and Macedonia. Some well-known people like cricketer Virender Sehwag live here.
Hauz Khas is named after an ancient water reservoir by the same name, now part of the extensive Hauz Khas Complex. In Urdu language, 'Hauz’ means “water tank” (or lake) and ‘Khas’ means “royal”, giving it the meaning - the “Royal tank”. The large water tank or reservoir was first built by Allauddin Khilji (r. 1296–1316) (the plaque displayed at the site records this fact) to supply water to the inhabitants of Siri Fort.

Delhi, India, (नई दिल्ली) is the national capital of the country and has a metropolitan population of around 22 million residents. The city is ancient, it's been around since the 6th century BC so there are many historical and cultural places to visit. That's specifically why I created this list of 21 things to do in Delhi, to help you plan and get excited about visiting Delhi, India.
1. The Lotus Temple (Bahá'í House of Worship) - The temple is in the shape of a giant lotus and on the inside is a peaceful sanctuary where you can enter and sit in silence for as long as you like.
2. ISKCON Hare Krishna Temple - I had never seen a temple like this before, so it as an interesting experience to hear the music and walk around the interior of the temple.
3. Kalkaji Mandir Hindu Temple - This temple is a very important Hindu temple in Delhi and while I was there, there were a number of babies being dedicated by being decorated and blessed.
4. Jama Masjid - Located in Old Delhi, Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in all of Delhi. Though they will attempt to get money from you, it's free to enter the mosque, but if you want to take photos inside they will charge you 300 rupees.
5. Akshardham Temple - This modern Hindu temple located on the outskirts of Delhi literally made my jaw drop, it's that amazing. It's free to enter, but unfortunately, they don't allow any photography inside. This is one of the things to do in Delhi that you cannot afford to miss!
6. Gurudwara Bangla Sahib (Sikh Temple) - Unlike some other sites in Delhi where you'll find many touts and hustlers, the Gurdwara Sikh Temple is about the nicest and most friendly place you can go in Delhi. People are extremely nice and you can enter the temple to listen to music.
7. Laxmi Narayan Mandir -- Dedicated by Mahatma Gandhi, this is one of the most significant Hindu temples in Delhi.
8. Hauz Khas Complex - I'm always amazed at the history of Delhi and Hauz Khas is an excellent example of ancient monuments in the middle of a public park.
9. Lodi Gardens - As a free entrance public park, visiting the Lodi Gardens is one of the most amazing things to do in Delhi. It's just like an ordinary park, but it's filled with thousand year old tombs and monuments that are truly inspirational.
10. India Gate - The war memorial is one of the landmarks of Delhi and resembles the famous Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
11. Jantar Mantar - The Jantar Mantar complex is a compound that houses 13 different astronomy instruments. The structures are confusing to look at, but if you read or follow a guide (or audio guide) you'll understand how each instrument functioned.
12. Qutub Minar - Just like Akshardham Temple, Qutub Minar is one of the top things to do in Delhi, it's truly remarkable. The minaret is the main attraction, a huge pillar of red carved sandstone that towers above the ancient ruins in the complex.
13. Humayun's Tomb - One of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Delhi is Humayun's Tomb, built in Mughal Islamic architecture.
14. Tomb of Safdarjung - Very similar to Humayun's tomb is the tomb of Safdarjung. What I really liked is that there were no other tourists the day I went so it was quite and peaceful.
15. Red Fort - Located near Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi is the Red Fort. It's an entire walled in city where you can walk around the browse the many buildings within the walls.
16. Raj Ghat - The Raj Ghat is a memorial park dedicated to Gandhi.
17. Chandni Chowk & Chawri Bazar - The liveliest and busiest area of Delhi is Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar. I think it's possible to purchase anything from the entire world in this area, and you'll also find lots of delicious food.
18. Dilli Haat - This handicraft village was set up by the Delhi tourism authority and it's a decent place to purchase souvenirs or high quality crafts. You'll also find a food court that contains canteens serving food from all over India.
19. Connaught Place (Rajiv Chowk) - Known for short as just CP is a huge series of roundabouts and is the central modern business district of Delhi. Within the area you'll find all sorts of shops, famous restaurants and the Palika Bazar, an underground shopping center.
20. Paharganj (Main Bazar) - The main bazar is located just west of the New Delhi railroad station and it's an old area of town where you'll find a market and lots of budget accommodation options.
21. Delhi Street Food - Eating street food is one of the best things to do in Delhi, you'll love it.

Seasoned travellers like me also find it a challenge to plan a wildlife trip to Kenya in Africa. There are lots of variable to figure. These include:
* Accommodation: Where to stay - hotels or camps? What is the right location, how much should one be spending and more.
* Safari Vehicles: You can go in vans or 4x4 Landcruisers. What works for whom?
* Guides: They come at different proficiency levels and you pay accordingly. Who is suitable for you?
* Which company should you book with? Different companies have differing quality of vehicles, guides, walkie-talkies to inform each other about sightings etc. Picking the right one could have a big bearing on your experience.
* Transportation: How do get from one park to another within Kenya? By road? Fly?
I spoke to Shivang Mehta about all of the above and more - and he demystified it for me. Tune in to pick these tips for yourself.

Hauz Khas Village in New Delhi, India has emerged as the city's star hub for cafes (including the Kunzum Travel Cafe), restaurants, art galleries, fashion stores, culture and all kinds of shopping-with-a-difference. And The Rose could not have chosen a better location in town for travellers to check in to.
Tucked away down the lane in one of the furthest corners of the village, a white door opens into what is truly a boutique hotel. The designers and architects have actually converted a drab building into a joyous space. You enter a spacious lounge that extends into a cafe, a gallery space and lawns beyond. Reading books from the shelf on comfortable sofas is just one of the perks of the place.
You are surrounded by forest cover, and are a few minutes away from the Deer Park (a thick forest with walkways and gardens with resident birds and animals), the Hauz Khas lake (with its beautiful landscaping) and the medieval age Hauz Khas monuments. Amenities include Wi-Fi, all meals, airport drop-and-pick, travel bookings, laundry, daily housekeeping and more. Room types (total 11) are a choice of The Cabin, Junior Suite, Grand Suite and The Loft. The bedsheets, towels and interiors are high quality and tastefully done.
The Rose opened its doors to guests in June 2012 and is run by three Frenchmen. You can opt for both short term as well as long term accommodation, with prices starting from about Rs. 4,500 (US$ 65) to Rs. 7,000 (US$ 125). According to Francois, one of the owners, the best thing about this place was the element of surprise. "When people open this white door, they do not know what they are going to see! Most are surprised to find a guest house behind it!' he says.
The Rose also hosts musical evenings every Saturday besides many other cultural and art events - for its residents as well as for others. Truly a great place to hang around at. Do check it out, and check in if you like it.

I have been planning to travel to Africa for the love of wildlife for many years - but have yet to as I write this. I know for sure I am not alone - there are many like me out there. One of the reasons: myths about travelling to the continent.
Shivang Mehta runs Nature Wanderers (www.naturewanderers.com) spends much of his time in the wild - in India, and in Africa. He not only goes for his own photography, but also takes groups for shooting and for participating in his workshops. He busts some of the myths in conversation with me on Kunzum TV - tune in to learn more.
What does he cover?
* Photography - For amateurs or for professionals? If you go to the Masai Mara in Kenya for example, it is a great learning ground for amateurs due to the abundance of wildlife. There is something to be shot at all time to hone one’s skills. If you are in India’s parks, you don’t see as much wildlife - thus a challenge for photographers. Myth busted: Africa is for photographers of all levels, beginners to professionals.
* Big 5 - It’s not about the sightings, but the action: Spotting the Big 5 of Africa is relatively easy. These are the Lions, Leopards, African Elephants, Black Rhinos and the Cape Buffaloes. It is about catching them in action - hunting, playing, loving and more.
* Budget - Is it expensive being in Africa’s national parks? True, safaris in Africa are usually not very budget friendly. But it need not be exhorbitant either. There is a package for every budget - costs depend on group size, choice of safari vehicles and guides, accommodation etc.

So many spots and corners in Delhi are littered with garbage or are used for open urination. Can we do something about them? We took a small corner in Hauz Khas Village (HKV) to change this.
HKV has become a hub for fashionable restaurants, bars, offices and commercial spaces. An overburden of the space combined with bad habits results in mis-use i.e. littering in this case. One example is the corner on the outside of the Hauz Khas Village temple where trash keeps piling up. We spot fixed this area with support of the MCD.
So... can you replicate this at a dirty corner near your home/office? It only takes a few hours. Go out and do! We will be happy to assist.
