$18 million Lotto winner's spectacular real estate options
Saturday's $18 million Lotto Powerball winner from Otago has plenty to choose from if high country real estate is their dream.
Few details are available about the winner who scooped the pool.
The ticket was purchased online, so no Lotto outlet on the ground can bathe in any of the glory.
About the only detail known is the winner is from Otago, which puts them in the proximity of the some of the most spectacular high country on the market.
Their win should, for instance, be enough to nab Wanaka's Lake McKay Station at the base of the Mount Pisa range.
Its 6,639 hectares look out over Lake Wanaka, Lake Hawea, the Clutha River and the Wanaka township.
Deer and chamois roam the hills and trout swim in the privately-accessed streams.
Not far away, Lake Hawea Station, on the eastern shore line of said lake, offers another opportunity for the Lotto winner.
The station has 6,505ha of diverse terrain with enough wild deer, chamois and trout to gladden the heart of any keen hunter.
It has an architecturally-designed homestead, a manager's cottage and staff quarters. Good skiing is close by.
Another option beckoning is Hunter Valley Station at the headwaters of Lake Hawea.
The station has a stunning setting in a mountainous area adjoining Mount Aspiring National Park.
Advertisements describe the station as "a living masterpiece".
The $18m came from the Powerball first division and an extra $250,000 from the Lotto first division.
It was the first Powerball win of 2017, with the jackpot struck three times during December.
Three other Lotto players were also in the money after winning $250,000 each on Saturday.
Those tickets were sold at Feilding Video Centre, Tony's Stationery and Lotto in Maungaturoto and on MyLotto to a player from New Plymouth.
Strike Four rolled over and will be worth $300,000 on Wednesday.
