Russell Crowe has pulled his palatial apartment in the Finger Wharf off the market, despite receiving an offer of about $25 million.

The Hollywood A-lister opened his doors to select off-market buyers last November following the break-up of his marriage with Danielle Spencer amid hopes of a record-setting $30 million deal.

Crowe’s decision to hold onto his apartment comes just days after Aussie Home Loan founder John Symond announced he had decided not to sell his Point Piper mansion despite receiving an offer of more than $100 million.

Crowe’s purchase of the Woolloomooloo apartment set a Sydney record in 2003 when he paid $14.35 million for it. That high was reset at $27 million last November by the sale of the Opera Residences penthouse at Circular Quay.

McGrath founder John McGrath, a long-time friend and former Sydney Boys High classmate of Crowe, had appointed Will Manning to the sale of Crowe’s apartment.

Despite no comment from Manning, an independent source said he was a regular visitor to Crowe’s apartment with interested buyers.

Luxury car importer Neville Crichton is believed to have made an early offer on the apartment of some $25 million.

Crichton has since purchased a waterfront house in Point Piper for some $33 million. Crichton is downsizing from his Point Piper mansion he sold recently for $60.8 million.

Crowe’s whole-floor spread covers some 1000 square metres, and includes a 35-metre marina berth and seven car spaces.

The Academy Award-winning actor is only the second owner of the apartment. It was previously owned by Nutrimetics founder Imelda Roche and her property developer husband Bill Roche, who bought it off the plan in 1998 for $9.8 million.

In 2011 Crowe and Spencer spent $10 million on the Rose Bay mansion Te Puke, and separated the following year.
