Tasos Theofilou: Open letter on the commencement of his trial at the court of appeal (Greece)

Thursday, December 8th, 2016

On November 21st, after a nine-month postponement, my trial commences at the court of appeal. It’s been two years since the completion of my trial at the court of first instance, when I was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for the charges of common complicity to homicide and robbery in connection with the events on Paros island on 10/8/2012. I was acquitted of participation in CCF as well as of direct perpetration of homicide by a majority opinion. It was a political (not judicial) compromise and a result of conflict between the manipulation of this particular case by the police in cooperation with the mainstream media during the first days after my arrest, on the one hand, and the lack of any evidence, along with the solidarity expressed by the audience and the reaction of independent media, on the other. Thereof emerged the temporary Solomonic solution of my partial acquittal of the charges, deferring the prospect of a conclusive decision until a trial at the court of appeal.

Apart from the appeal initiated by myself, in which I upheld a full acquittal of all charges, there was also one more appeal, as of right, initiated by a gentleman called Δράκος [Dragon] –namely, a public prosecutor whose surname obviously adds further symbolism to the witch-hunt orchestrated by the Counter-terrorism Service. Eventually, the division of opinion between the presiding judge, Mr. Hatziathanasiou, – who voted for my conviction for all charges- and the two other members of the court – who chose the more moderate option that eventually prevailed- made room for further manipulation. Interview with an activist detained during Operation Fenix (Czech Republic)

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015

From soliwebsite – antifenix:

Tomas Z. describes himself as an ecological activist from Olomouc region. His most “hardcore terrorist actions” include guerilla gardening (he planted couple of plants to other person’s land without their consent) and unconventional creation of cyclepath. On April 28th he was one of eleven people detained by Counter Organised Crime Unit of the Czech Police (UOOZ) during the undercover operation called Fenix. The police is convinced that 30 year old activist is one of the leaders of Network of Revolutionary Cells (SRB). According to police, SRB supposedly planned to attack trains transporting either military equipment or Hyundai cars with Molotov cocktails. Detention of Tomas Z. was justified with his alleged connection to destroyed police car in the city of Litvinov. Tomas Z. proclaimed this allegation to be nonsense and absurd as well as his connection with SRB. During incriminated period he was not living in the Czech Republic and police was most likely aware of that. Following interview will shed the light on practises of police which seem to be filled with fabricated pre-requisitions for the detention, at least in his case. These practises are commonly employed by police in “war against terror” around the world and now successfully practised in Czech national security services.

Can you disclose details regarding your detention?

Few officers in plain clothes detained me from the flat of my girlfriend but I think they had no rights to do so. I was handcuffed and taken to my house. All together there must have been more than 10 police personnel, because we departed in three fully occupied civilian cars. When arrived to my house there was three police vans full of police armoured with automatic weapons ready and waiting. I was taken to a rented land beside (rented by police for this occasion) and there I was shown the search warrant for my house and surrounding land. Police than started with the search, apparently looking for explosives, weapons and materials connected with anarchist movement. The special dog was used (trained for explosives search) and whole search took several hours but nothing has been found because I have never had anything like that in my possession.

Some developments of the Kolchenko case (Crimea)

Friday, October 17th, 2014

Repressions against Crimean activists See here for previous info.

There are some news on the Kolchenko/Sentsov case.

At first, FSB [internal security service] is looking for new suspects:

www.khpg.org/en/index.php?id=1406387040

Also, “Union of solidarity with political prisoners” has received an internal FSB document from 22th of September, which besides 4 arrested persons, lists 4 other persons. Their names are listed in this document, but nothing more is known about them and their whereabouts.

Most likely this is growing to become a major falsified case.

This news about the document is only in Russian:

Anti-fascist Pavel Krivonosov from Nizhni Novgorod needs help! (Russia)

Sunday, April 7th, 2013

Last autumn, a longstanding case against Nizhni Novgorod anti-fascists was returned to investigation, and for a while it seemed like a final victory (see http://avtonom.org/en/author_columns/background-nizhni-novgorod-victory). However, in contrary to these expectations, the case returned to court this spring and things do not look too good.

Pavel Krivonosov is one of the accused of the fabricated case. He is a social activist, a musician and anarchist. As the set-up has been going for a while, number of charges passed the statute of limitations and were tossed out from the court – political “extremist” charges included. However, he is accused still according to part 2 of the statute 213 of the Russian criminal codex (hooliganism committed with a group of people), which carries a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison. Nizhny Novgorod criminal case – Interview with Artem Bystrov, framed Anti-Fascist activist (Russia)

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

On April 26, 2011, in the morning, six young people were arrested by Center “E” detectives (so-called “Anti-Extremist” cops). Five anti-fascists of Nizhny Novgorod were subject to home-searches. One of the flats was stormed by OMON (Special Police Squad), the windows were broken because nobody was at home.

During the searches the membership cards of a non-existing organisation “RASH-Antifa” with photos and serial numbers, evidently made by Center “E” (Anti-Extremist Center) detectives, were planted in suspects’ homes.

Action Days in Solidarity with Nizhny Novgorod Anti-Fascists : June 24-26 (Russia)

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

At the present moment the detectives of the Anti-Extremist Center of GUVD (General Directorate of Internal Affairs) of Nizhniy Novgorod Region, are fabricating a criminal case against Artem Bystrov, who was arrested on April 26,2011. He is accused of the article № 213 part 2 (hooliganism committed by a group of persons on preliminary arrangement by hatred or hostility toward a particular social group).

Two of the other suspects have not been arrested yet. It is worth noting that the victim himself — a nationalist called D.Redkin, doesn’t press any charges to the people arrested on April 26 and refuses to take part in the process.

The case was filed seven months after an alleged violent attack. It was filed by pressure on the victim and the witness. The investigation is proceeded with gross violations and falsification of evidence. For example, during the searches the membership cards of a non-existing organisation “RASH-Antifa” with photos and serial numbers, evidently made by Center “E” (Anti-Extremist Center) detectives, were planted in suspects’ homes. Déjà vu: the frame up against Alfredo Bonanno has begun (Greece)

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

translated from: cette semaine via angry news from around the world

Greece: Anarchist Bonanno suspected of second robbery

Athens, 25 Feb. – Alfredo Bonanno, the Italian anarchist over 70 years old imprisoned last October following an accusation of concourse in robbery of a bank in Trikala, is suspected of being the author of another robbery carried out last July at Argostoli, on the island of Cefalonia. Bonanno’s lawyers contest this accusation.

According to police sources cited by the media, Bonanno, with a false beard and wig, would have been recognised by one of the witnesses on the basis of a cctv video, while he robbed the Bank of Cyprus, pistol in hand, 6 July in Argostoli. The information has been partially confirmed to Ansa by a spokesman of the central police station, according to which “an old Italian is considered author of the robbery at Argostoli, which rendered 26 000 euros”. The spokesman did not give Bonanno’s name directly but implied that it was him.

Joanna Kurtovic, the Greek lawyer of the old Italian imprisoned in Korydallos (Athens), has expressed her doubts concerning the identification on the basis of a video and a critique of the way this accusation was made public. Bonanno, who suffers from diabetes and has cardio-respiratory problems, is one of the main theoreticians of anarcho-insurrectionnalism (sic). He was arrested at the beginning of October with the Greek anarchist Christos Stratigopoulos following the robbery of a bank in Trikala, for 47 000 euros. The Italian was later arrested in an hotel where the police found the proceeds of the robbery. Bonanno’s defence is that he received the bag from Stratigopoulos, without knowing what it contained.
