A man who was allegedly stabbed in the head at Springvale on Friday is expected to be charged with assaulting police.
Paramedics were called to a unit in Osborne Avenue just after 8.40pm, where they found a man sitting on the road with a head injury.
Victoria Police spokeswoman Natalie Webster said the 39-year-old Springvale man had been struck on the head with an edged weapon.
It is understood a meat cleaver was found at the scene.
Police allege the man was uncooperative and spat at a police officer.
The officer was taken to hospital as a precaution.
The injured man was treated at the scene before being taken to Dandenong Hospital with a non-life threatening injury.
He has since been discharged.
He will be interviewed by police in relation to allegedly assaulting a police officer.
Police believe the man's attacker was known to him.
Investigations are ongoing.
