Australian men were described by the US military during World War II as incoherent, beer-drinking tough guys who would gamble on raindrops falling on a window. In 1942, the US Army handed a 54-page booklet to its soldiers who were sent to Australia during the war to help them deal with culture shock. Titled 'Instructions for American Servicemen in Australia', the handbook's overriding theme was that the two countries shared a robust military and cultural alliance. But 75 years later, it gives a compelling insight into America's perception of Australians and reveals what the US Army told its men about Australian soldiers.

NEW Former Essendon captain Jobe Watson's new model girlfriend (right and inset) has revealed how the couple met for the first time. Virginia Slaghekke (pictured left with Watson) said she'd had no idea about the AFL star's celebrity status when he'd chased after her to nervously hand over his phone number. The pair met in a coffee shop in August last year in New York City during Watson's hiatus from football. 'He was having breakfast and he ran after me with his number on a napkin,' she said.

For the record, the Bolt All Stars won the night (inset), with Australia claiming second spot in the six-team event. But this was much more about the spectacle than the overall result. It was about drawing new fans to a sport which is struggling for traction in Australia and around the world. Australian winners on the night included Michelle Jenneke (right) in the 100m hurdles and Kurtis Marschall, who tied for top spot in the pole vault.

UPDATED Donald Trump has continued to slam a federal judge's move to temporarily halt his immigration ban, warning that 'many very bad and dangerous people may be pouring into our country'. He said it was a 'terrible decision' in a tweet posted just hours after the department of Homeland Security announced it would stop enforcing the executive order. The State Department also reversed the cancellations of visas for foreigners after Judge James Robart's controversial ruling on Friday. The decision by the veteran jurist, who was nominated by George W. Bush in 2004, temporarily halted Trump's order banning travelers and immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries. On Saturday afternoon, after playing a round at the Trump International Golf Club near his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump tweeted: 'Because the ban was lifted by a judge, many very bad and dangerous people may be pouring into our country. A terrible decision. His post followed on from a tirade of tweets he posted in the morning, warning that re-opening borders to the countries affected by the ban could lead to 'death and destruction'.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer (left) referred to Malcolm Turnbull (top right) as 'Mr Trumble' for the second day in a row at a press conference in Washington on Saturday about the refugee deal. The previous day he used the odd name for the Australian Prime Minister several times at another event. He also said White House aides met with the 'prime minister' when it was actually ambassador Joe Hockey (bottom right) before he was embarrassingly corrected by reporters.

Anthony Mundine has labelled Danny Green 'a b****' and said he 'whipped his a***' during their controversial cruiserweight boxing bout on Friday night. Green exacted revenge for his 2006 defeat against his arch nemesis in a bitter fight at the Adelaide Oval. Mundine insisted he won the bout, despite the judges scoring 94-94; 96-94 and 98-90 in Green's favour. 'I feel alright man, the adrenaline was still pumping last night. I'm content man, I whipped his a*** again. He won three rounds max,' he said.

Habitual mooner Bailey Price (right), a 20-year-old from Wellington has unveiled the multi-coloured 'Sir Ivan.com' tattoo that Miami man Ivan Wilzig, also known as Sir Ivan, bid $6,500 for. The Wellington woman said she 'had butterflies' before receiving the ink for electronic-music maker Sir Ivan Wilzig, 60, who said he was 'reaching the masses using other people's a****'. Ms Price was flown to Miami where 'the pretty wild girl' was inked up at Salvation Tattoo Lounge with artist, Kevin Deuso (left). Sir Ivan later posted a picture of the finished piece online, with himself looking adoringly at it (inset).

The singer is looking to adopt twins Esther and Stella Mwale, both 4, from a Malawi orphanage. Mercy James's uncle Peter Banet told their family: 'It will be as if your children have died.' Mr Banet signed papers in 2009 to allow Madonna to adopt Mercy, believing she would stay in contact. But the uncle said he has not seen the girl after she was adopted.

The amazing story of Officer Walter Sitek (left) can now be told in full as the remains of his ship,(right) coral-lined and broken in two, were recovered 3,000 feet beneath the Atlantic Ocean near the Azores. The navy officer was the only member of his 46-man crew to escape, with 41 taken captive by the British and four killed by a bomb while still in the water. Another indication is that Miss Markle, 35, who is based in Canada where she films the hit television show Suits, has found a sitter for her dogs, Guy and Bogart, who live with her in Toronto.

Soon-to-be wed couple Pippa Middleton and fiance James Matthews were all smiles as they prepared for married life - by visiting a flooring shop. The pair, set to wed in what has been branded the Wedding of the Year, were pictured leaving the high-end Siberian Flooring store in Fulham Road, London yesterday.

Shocking footage appearing to show a man drenched in blood forcing a crucifix down his throat has emerged online. The disturbing video posted on YouTube is believed to have been filmed in South America and shows the man convulsing in a chair grunting in demonic tones. Blood is splattered on his chest while he is surrounded by topless men who seem to egg him on while a drumbeat builds to a crescendo in the background. The man is sprayed with water as he speaks in  tongues and bangs his feet on the ground.

He was murdered in 1997 aged just 24, a year after his rival Tupac was shot dead.  But hopeful fans have sent Instagram into a mini-frenzy after spotting a Biggie Smalls look-a-like.  The Juicy legend's look-a-like appeared in a bachelor's stag do selfie, sparking fresh conspiracy theories. The sighting comes months after Biggie's arch rival, Tupac Shakur was 'spotted' alive and well.

Elmo and the Cookie Monster made a surprising appearance during a Sevens rugby match between Wales and Samoa match at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night. Cookie Monster lost the head of his costume during the merriment, but his companion Elmo managed to escape from security, running over 70m before being tackled to the ground. While the crowd were in good spirits over the pitch invasion, reactions on social media and from the rugby players were not so positive.

Transexual and transgender people are often shunned in the largely conservative country, and many choose to retreat to a community on the island of Java. Here they could, until last year, attend an Islamic boarding school for transgender learners, thought to be the only one in the world. Now the waria - a term which combines the Indonesian words 'wanita' and 'pria', which mean woman and man - often gather in the building to pray, but the school shut after a public outcry last year. Nevertheless, defiant teachers continue to hold occasional classes for those of the 42 students who continue their learning.

In the shocking footage (centre), MacKinnon is heard saying to them: 'How did you get into first class? You don't deserve to be in first class. You don't deserve to be here. Bloody foreigners. Where were you even born?' MacKinnon appeared at Carlisle Magistrates Court on Tuesday and admitted a racially aggravated public order offence. He was fined £1154, plus £50 compensation, a £150 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.

Archer, a Los Angeles-based British expat, is a dental technician known for creating the smiles of some of the silver screen's most memorable characters. He shares the story behind Austin Powers's gnarly grin, Blade's fantastic fangs and other memorable creations.

Breathtaking footage of a geomagnetic storm was captured by an airplane passenger while flying east over Canada. Better known as 'northern lights', the storms create 'auroral currents', which create the glowing colorful lights sparkling in the horizon. The currents' reflection can be seen appearing much whiter over the bright city - and growing a deeper shade of emerald as the city lights fade.

A neglected dog whose matted ball of dirty fur made her breed unidentifiable has had a haircut and given a name as the RSPCA launch an investigation into how she ended up resembling a 'dirty mop'. The tiny shih tzu has been named Rosie and was handed into a veterinary practice in Bury after she was found by a member of the public. In addition to her overgrown coat her flesh was covered in deep wounds and her skin was bleeding. Rosie is thought to be aged between three and six-years-old, had no microchip or ID tag when she was handed in to vets.

South Africa's 'pink' one-day international against Sri Lanka encountered an unexpected hazard when a swarm of bees interrupted play for almost half an hour at the Wanderers. The hosts, who took the field wearing the pink strip used annually in aid of charitable causes, were held up three times in all when the bees flew into Johannesburg. Players on both teams fell to the floor in evasive action during Sri Lanka's innings - but when the swarm moved in for a third time and showed no sign of a quick exit, officials decided it was time to call for the experts.
