What is Responsible Gambling?

Responsible gambling occurs in an environment where people make informed and rational decisions about their participation in gambling based on their own individual circumstances.

UBET recognises that while the vast majority of people who gamble do so for enjoyment and entertainment, there are some people for whom this form of entertainment has become a problem.

UBET believes that the provision of responsible gambling programs is of the utmost importance and is committed to making gambling a fun and enjoyable experience while ensuring that those customers experiencing a problem with gambling are protected.

Most Australians enjoy a bet but some people may have a problem controlling their gambling. This can often involve spending too long in betting venues, being constantly short of money, or using money not meant for gambling.

Of course we want you to enjoy gambling, but it is important to remember that gambling is a game of chance and the outcome is not in your control. Follow these four easy steps to make sure your gambling stays in control:

  1. set yourself time and money limits and stick to them;
  2. take frequent breaks;
  3. don't chase your losses – walk away; and
  4. only spend what you can afford on gambling.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE A PROBLEM?

Gambling may have become a problem when the compulsion to gamble continues despite the negative consequences that it may be having on your life.


If you think you may be struggling with your gambling, ask yourself:

  • are you spending more money and time on gambling than intended?
  • are you hiding your gambling from other people?
  • are you borrowing money to pay for living expenses to support your gambling habit?

  • are you losing interest in other activities?
  • are you finding work or your relationships are becoming affected?
  • are you starting to lie about your gambling?
  • are you not going to work or not home as often?

If you answered yes to some of the above questions, you may be experiencing problem gambling.

For most people, gambling is fun and entertaining. For some however, it can be difficult to manage and as such, each state has introduced responsible gambling policies that we need to comply with to help keep our customers safe.

HOW CAN WE HELP

SET YOUR BET LIMIT

UBET encourages you to Set Your Bet Limit according to your personal circumstances. A bet limit is a customer nominated limit on the maximum wagering spend over a given period of time – either daily, weekly or monthly. Once your bet limit has been reached, you will not be able to place any further bets until the next time period commences.

In order to maintain the highest possible standard of responsible gambling, the Set Your Bet Limit is controlled exclusively by you – the customer service team cannot override the limit without your express authorisation.

You can edit your Set Your Bet Limit at any time in the ‘My Account’ area of UBET, or by calling our Customer Contact Centre on 1800 UBET 88 (1800 823 888). Please keep in mind, any increases or removals to your bet limit cannot be affected until 7 days after the request is made – we do this to make sure you're happy with your decision. If however you would like to reduce you bet limit, you may do this at any time by editing the limit in ‘My Account’. Select the ‘Set Limit’ button below to start.

SELF-EXCLUSION

At UBET we take our responsible gambling commitments seriously. If you are having an issue with your gambling, then self-exclusion may be an effective way to manage your gambling issues.

In order to self-exclude from our online products, you are required to submit a Self-Exclusion Notice. This can be completed online within your Account area within Self-Manage and following the prompts. Select the ‘Set Up’ button below to start.

Gambling Help Online is a free 24/7 anonymous counselling service which has experienced staff that can assist you in a number of ways and can assist in finding free face-to-face counselling for those affected by a gambling problem either directly or via its network of treatment providers across Australia.
