'Leo DiCaprio was charming!' Girl befriended by Jack in Titanic reflects on her brief fame... and reveals she STILL gets recognised at 28

Titanic, the movie, may have been a tragic love story between Leo DiCaprio's character Jack and Kate Winslet's Rose.

But little Cora, played by Alex Owens-Sarno when she was just eight years old, has gone down in showbiz history as Jack's 'best girl' in director James Cameron's epic.

The blockbuster celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and Alex is now grown up and just as adorable, according to Buzzfeed, which posted an interview with the 28-year-old on Thursday.

Now and then: Alex Owens-Sarno, as she is now, left, was only eight when she was cast to play young Cora in director James Cameron's epic Titanic with Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett

Alex has nothing but fond memories of making Titanic, about the unsinkable liner that foundered after hitting an iceberg in 1912.

'Leonardo DiCaprio was an absolute doll. He was so fun and charming. He loved to put a smile on everyone’s face. [I’d often] be on his lap with a PB&J in between takes,' she shared

In the movie, young Alex even got to cut a jig with Leo's Jack at a rowdy party in steerage before Kate's Rose joined them.

And he assured the child as he danced with Rose: 'You're still my best girl, Cora' making hearts flutter around the world.

Hanging out below deck: Leo's character showed young Cora his drawings. Alex, now 28, said the star was 'an absolute doll'

Alex continued:  'My mom has an amazing picture of me, Leo, Kate, and my little sister Rachel hanging out when they were resetting for the dancing scene,' she told the website.

'It’s one of my favorites and is a reminder of just how lucky I am to have worked with two of the best actors out there.'

These days Alex dedicates herself to studying acting and recently earned her degree in writing from California State University, Long Beach.

Making movie history: On Friday, Alex shared this Instagram showing the moment Leo said, 'You're still my best girl, Cora' in the movie

She's still Cora: Alex said that fans of Titanic still recognise her as Leo's young friend

And, amazingly, Titanic fans still recognise her as Cora, according to the UK's Daily Mirror.

'I went to a bar with some friends, recently,' Alex said. 'Our server took our drink orders, and when she came back with them, she asked me if I was in Titanic.

'She said to me, "I was going to walk up to you and just say, 'You’re still my best girl, Cora,' but I didn't want to be wrong and then feel like an idiot."

'But I really wish she had, because that would have made my entire life.'
