'She was a grand lady': Larry King mourns Playboy bunny Alene Akins, the third of his seven wives (and the only one he married twice)

Larry King took to Twitter on Friday to reveal the death of ex-wife Alene Akins, mother of two of his five children,

'So very saddened over the passing of Alene Akins, who died peacefully with our children Chaia and Andy by her side,' the 83-year-old tweeted on Friday afternoon. 'She was a grand lady.'

There were no further details of the cause of death.

The one-time Playboy bunny and the former CNN host were actually married twice, from 1961-1963 and again from 1967-1972.

They share two children, Chaia and Andy, her son who Larry adopted during their first marriage. 

Married eight times, to seven women, Larry has three more children.

In 2010, the veteran newsman talked about his many marriages in an interview with CBS, according to People.

'You know the funny thing,' King said, 'I think in my life I have loved three people - married all three.

'The other marriages I wasn’t in love. It was the thing to do. 

'I used to say, what if your wife called urgent on one line, on the other CNN called urgent … which one do you pick up? … I used to say CNN.'

Larry married his high school sweetheart Freda Miller at age 18 in 1952. It was reportedly annulled in 1953 at the behest of their parents.

In 1961 he tied the knot with Annette Kaye, but that union didn't last the year. She had his first child, Larry Jr. in November 1961.

He moved on to Alene the same year, divorcing her in 1963 for Mickey Stuphin. That relationship didn't work out either and by 1967 he was remarried to Alene.

They split in 1972 and he later wed Sharon Lepore in 1976.

They divorced in 1983 and Larry waited six years before popping the question to Julie Alexander in 1989. They parted ways in 1992.

Larry has been with current wife Shawn King, 56, since 1997 and they share two teenage sons, Chance and Cannon.
