We are embarrassed Americans: Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen has used the Melbourne leg of his Australian tour to send a political message on a day of revelation regarding the US-Australian refugee deal.

Springsteen took to the stage and said 'We stand before you as embarrassed Americans tonight' claiming 'we want to send a message to back home' before he went onto play the 1962 The Orlons hit 'Don't Hang Up'.

His song choice plays to the revelations today from the Washington Post that Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and President Donald Trump's first phone call might not have gone as well as we were lead to believe.

It was rumoured that Trump may have even hung up on the Prime Minister- however that claim has been rejected by Turnbull.

This isn't the first time Springsteen has used his tour to send a political message- in Adelaide the 67-year-old singer-songwriter took time to criticise Trump's immigration ban.

'Tonight we wanted to add our voices to the thousands of Americans who are protesting in airports around our country the Muslim ban and detention of foreign nationals and refugees.'

He continued: 'America is a nation of immigrants, and we find this anti-democratic and fundamentally un-American.'

Springsteen continues his tour with a performance in Sydney next week.
