Men

On average, 1 in 8 men will have depression and 1 in 5 men will experience anxiety at some stage of their lives.1

While women are more likely to experience depression and anxiety, men are less likely to talk about it. This increases the risk of their depression or anxiety going unrecognised and untreated.

Depression is a high risk factor for suicide and, in Australia, there are approximately 2,500 suicides each year. 75 per cent are by men – with an average of 6 men taking their lives every single day. Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under the age of 54, significantly exceeding the national road toll.2

It’s important to remember that depression and anxiety are conditions, not weaknesses, and effective treatments are available.

Taking action may not be as hard as you think. Over at Man Therapy, Dr Brian Ironwood and Davo are on hand to help blokes when the going gets tough.

If you're a new dad finding things harder than you expected, check out our four-part web series, Dadvice. You can also take our stress test and get some tips for nailing this whole dad thing on 2.3 hours sleep.
