Sunshine Coast Region

With a population of 251 081 people, the Sunshine Coast is the tenth-largest city in Australia, and the third largest in the state of Queensland. Many residents on the Sunshine Coast work in either retail, construction, tourism or agriculture. Today, the "city" of the Sunshine Coast (not technically a city because it has no geographic city centre) is known for its relaxed lifestyle, beaches, cosmopolitan nightlife and natural beauty.

It is a popular tourist destination for families, couples and groups of friends as there is something for everyone to enjoy. Well-known locations on the Sunshine Coast include the hub of Noosa (where city conveniences such as shopping, nightlife entertainment and restaurants are located), seaside spot Caloundra and the breathtaking hinterland region of the Glass House Mountains.

Pro surfer Joel Parkinson (ranked in the top 10 of men's surfing with Kelly Slater) was originally from the Sunshine Coast suburb of Nambour.
