Police officers have swarmed the area surrounding Brookside shopping centre on Saturday afternoon after a driver fled the scene of a nearby crash.
The incident started about 3.45pm when a suspected stolen black hatchback was crashed into another car on Samford Road at Gaythorne near Burdekin Street.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene across nearby rugby fields and towards Brookside shopping centre.
Three police cars attended the initial crash scene, while a member of the public said up to 20 officers converged on the shopping centre itself.
The suspect was arrested a short time later near the centre and it was believed no one else was injured in the crash.
