In the dock: James Aaron Laity, 34, filmed the rape and encouraged his pet Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Warrior, to commit a sex act on the woman

A rapist who attacked a drunk woman and then forced his dog to sexually assault her in a 'degrading and unpleasant' onslaught has been jailed for 13 years today.

James Aaron Laity, 34, launched the attack while his victim was semi-conscious following a night out, Stafford Crown Court heard.

He even filmed the rape and encouraged his pet Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Warrior, to commit a sex act on the woman.

His victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, considered suicide after her ordeal.

Laity, of Winshill, Stafforshire, was jailed for 13 years today, three months after he admitted two charges of rape and five counts of possessing indecent images of children and extreme pornography at Stafford Crown Court.

He was made the subject of an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and will be on the sex offenders' register for life.

Judge Mark Eades described the offences as 'degrading and unpleasant'.

He said material found on Laity's phone revealed his interest in sexual abuse of a degrading and unpleasant nature.

The judge told him his victim was in no fit state to give her consent and said the 'humiliation' of the incident with the dog was an aggravating feature.

The court heard the woman had been sick in nightclub toilets and was taken to Laity's home as a place of refuge where she vomited again in November 2013.

But prosecutor Daniel White said Laity aggressively pushed the victim onto his bed and raped her before filming the sex attack in November 2014.

He then encouraged his pet dog Warrior to commit a sex act which he also filmed.

Shameful: He launched the attack while his victim was semi-conscious following a night out, Stafford Crown Court heard

When Laity was arrested he told police he was a 'Good Samaritan' who had taken the woman home to look after her after a night out.

He claimed the pair had consensual sex and that the victim had instigated the dog incident herself before 'making the story up to destroy him'.

Mr White told the court it was clear from one of the videos that the victim had shown no response or movement during the incidents.

Laity's victim, who can't be named for legal reasons, has now spoken out about the horrific ordeal and told how she was left so distraught that she considered suicide.

She said: 'I felt bad going to the police but if it stops it happening to more people then it was worth it.

'He is so convincing and looks like a nice person and doting dad that I was worried I would not be believed but I just want the truth to be out there.

'He tried to prey on vulnerable people. It's disgusting.

'I keep getting threats since reporting him but I came forward to help other people but I have been shot in the foot for it.

'I wasn't going to tell as I was embarrassed but he told people I was accusing him.'

Laity had previously denied the two rape charges from the 2014 attack as well as two rape charges involving a second woman from 2012 and 2013.

But he changed his pleas to guilty in relation to the 2014 incident on the third day of his trial at Stafford Crown Court in November.

Prosecutors didn't seek a re-trial in relation to the second victim and Judge Eades ruled that those two rape charges should lie on the file.
