Aldo Ray (born Aldo Da Re; September 25, 1926 – March 27, 1991) was an American actor.
Ray was born in Pen Argyl in Northampton County in eastern Pennsylvania, to an Italian family of five brothers (Mario, Guido, Dante, Dino and Louis) and one sister (Regina). His brother, Mario DaRe (1933-2010), lettered in football at USC in the years 1952 to 1954, and on May 12, 1955 appeared as a contestant on the NBC quiz show You Bet Your Life hosted by Groucho Marx. In 1944, at age 18, during World War II, Aldo entered the United States Navy, serving as a frogman until 1946; he saw action at Okinawa with UDT-17.
Upon leaving the Navy, he entered the University of California at Berkeley, but his studies there were brief. Shortly after leaving Berkeley, he settled in his family's hometown Crockett, California, with his first wife, Shirley Green. They had one child, a daughter named Claire.
Ray was elected as the Constable of the Crockett Judicial District in Contra Costa County California. Ray drove his brother Guido to an audition for the film Saturday's Hero (1951). Director David Miller was more interested in Ray than his brother, because, it is rumored, of his voice, and hired him for the small role of a cynical college football player opposite John Derek and Donna Reed. Columbia Pictures wasted no time in signing Ray to an exclusive contract, and despite having no acting experience, Ray soon appeared in several films under his birthname, Aldo DaRe.
Aldo comes from the Latin altus and means "the tall one."

Nigel Patrick (born Nigel Dennis Patrick Wemyss-Gorman; 2 May 1912 – 21 September 1981) was an English actor and stage director born into a theatrical family.
Patrick was born in London, England, the son of actress Dorothy Turner (d. 1969). He made his professional stage debut in The Life Machine at the Regent Theatre, King's Cross in 1932 following a period in repertory. Thereafter he appeared in many successful plays including the long-running George and Margaret at the Wyndham's Theatre which ran for 799 performances.
His film career was put on hold until after service in World War II during which, as a Lieutenant Colonel in the King's Royal Rifle Corps, he fought in the Middle East, North Africa and Italy.
During the late 1940s and 1950s he became a popular, debonair leading man in British film with notable success in The Sound Barrier (1952), under the direction of David Lean. Exhibitors voted him the seventh most popular British film star with the public in 1952. Patrick later appeared in The League of Gentlemen (1960) and Sapphire (1959), winner of Best British Film at the 1960 BAFTA Film Awards.
Fernando Álvaro Lamas y de Santos (January 9, 1915 – October 8, 1982) was an Argentine-born actor and director, and the father of actor Lorenzo Lamas.
Born Fernando Álvaro Lamas y de Santos in Buenos Aires, Argentina, by 1942, he was an established movie star in his native country. His first film made in the United States was The Avengers in 1950. In 1951, he signed a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and went on to play "Latin Lover" roles.
In 1951, he starred as Paul Sarnac in the musical, Rich, Young and Pretty and as Juan Dinas in the comedy, The Law and the Lady. Throughout the 1950s, Lamas had leading roles in a number of MGM musicals, including Dangerous When Wet with his future wife Esther Williams. After the beginning of the 1960s, he turned to TV series; mostly appearing in guest roles. From 1965 to 1968, Lamas had a regular role as Ramon De Vega on Run For Your Life, which starred Ben Gazzara.
Lamas directed for the first time in 1963. It was a movie titled Magic Fountain starring his future wife Esther Williams. He directed another feature film, The Violent Ones, which was released in 1967 and co-starred Aldo Ray and David Carradine. He was most active directing on television, doing episodes that included Mannix, Alias Smith and Jones, Starsky and Hutch and Falcon Crest. The latter show co-starred his son, Lorenzo.
Scenes from every one of Aldo Ray's film and television performances in the 1950's (except one*). From his bit-part start in "My True Story" to his early television days. The two musical numbers are performed by Rita Hayworth in "Miss Sadie Thompson" starring Aldo. Everything is in chronological order of release date. Scenes in this tribute also feature Judy Holiday, Katharine Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, Rita Hayworth, Jane Wyman, and others. The tribute ends with a chilling scene from "Frontier Circus" where Aldo looks right at the camera and makes a statement about not being able to kill the memories with alcohol. I hope those who remember Aldo Ray will enjoy this tribute. *I had to leave out his uncredited bit part in "Never Trust a Gambler" because I do not have that movie. Maybe ...

Spaghetti Western, also known as Italian Western, is a broad sub-genre of Western films that emerged in the mid-1960s in the wake of Sergio Leone's film-making style and international box-office success. It was used by critics in USA and other countries because most of these Westerns were produced and directed by Italians. According to actor Aldo Sambrell, the phrase 'Spaghetti Western' was originally created by Italian journalist Alfonso Sancha[1]. In the beginning the term was used in a derogatory sense, but over time it has become accepted as descriptive. The denomination for these films in Italy is western all'italiana (Italian-Style Western). Italo-Western is also used, especially in Germany. The term Eurowesterns may be used to also include Western movies that were produced in Europe...
