An investigation has been launched by ACT Police into a string of burglaries of Canberra businesses where two male offenders used axes to gain entry.

Six businesses across Canberra were broken into between 3am and 6am on Monday, with offenders taking large amounts of property and cash.

Police have said the businesses targeted include Coco's Hair and The Knox Cafe in Watson, Edgar's Inn in Ainslie, The Yacht Club in Yarralumla as well as The Pedlar Cafe and Avenue C Wine Co in Campbell.

In a statement, police said the offenders may be responsible for all six incidents.

"In at least one incident, two males used an axe to break a window of the property," an ACT Police spokesman said.

Police are searching for an orange Ford or Holden Commodore V8, which is believed to have been used as a getaway car from the scene.

The first man is described as wearing a white t-shirt and jeans at the time of the burglaries.

The second was seen wearing a long-sleeve hoodie with a light-coloured hood as well as dark shorts and gloves.
