A boxing fan has become an overnight internet sensation after enabling more than 150,000 people to watch the Danny Green vs Anthony Mundine fight for free via Facebook Live.

Darren Sharpe has been hailed as "the most popular man in Australia" on Saturday morning after the mechanic filmed the pay-per-view Adelaide fight on his phone then made it a Facebook Live video.

Sharpe's bootleg vision of the fight, controversially won by Green, at one point had over 150,000 watching it.

Sharpe even reportedly live-streamed a call from a Foxtel official who insisted that he stop the stream.

"You just need to turn it off, I put a message up on your account before about it's only for Foxtel subscribers," a voice was heard saying, according to NewsCorp Australia.

While Foxtel didn't appear to appreciate Sharpe's behaviour, he gained admirers online, with many Sharpe-related memes quickly doing the rounds.

On Saturday morning, Sharpe posted a message of thanks to those who backed him up in his fight with the cable television provider.

In a statement, Foxtel reportedly vowed to take "appropriate legal action" against Sharpe.

"What occurred last night on Facebook is stealing and it's harmful to the future of boxing and live sport," the statement said, according to Fairfax Media.
